Seriously why all these debate? Gay and Lesbian pride month in June is officially sanctioned by Obama since 2009, and he reaffirmed his support of this every single year. All these government buildings are simply follow Obama admin's guideline.

If the conservatives have problem, go after Obama. Don't need to single out one government agency.

What? Now conservatives have to think about who they attack with their mindless rants?

At the risk of getting flamed: If a government agency cannot display things such as a Cross, or a Star of David, or a Confederate Flag, then it also stands to reason they equally should not display emblems associated with however many other secular and non~secular groups.

Basically: US Flag/Emblem, State Flag/Emblem, Local Flag/Emblem, Agency Emblem and nothing else.

The rationale is simple: Since there is no way to satisfy all groups, then there should be no overt support/advertising for any.

This. Very much this. These are the only flags that should be flown.

Show me where the US history has the same discrimination against the minority group of straight people that it has for gays, and I'll say you have a point.

Meh.

Yes the history of homosexuals in the U.S. was at times very horrible, brutal, and inhumane. But the worst of it was well before I was born. I never hurt anyone. I never oppressed anyone.

At some point, the continuation of "special privileges" to make up for past wrongs in the name of "equal rights" does little benefit for the cause, in exchange for perpetuating the notion that these groups are indeed separate and deserve separate treatments.

The ultimate end goal is a society that makes no distinction between a straight person and a gay person, am I wrong?

gay pride is a contentious issue just as confederate heritage is a contentious issue so why is right to fly one flag but not the other?

One is progressive, one is regressive.

The Confederate flag represents the very real tyranny of the past, just as the Nazi flag represents its totalitarianism. To fly those flags says that one wishes to return to those "good old days" of darkness and suffering.

The gay pride flag represents hope for a bright future.

Perhaps one day it will represent something bad. Perhaps hundreds of years from now the gays will form a power bloc and gas the transsexuals, and so their flag will come to represent the pain of their victims.
But that day is not today.

Do the individual colors of this rainbow flag each represent something, and if so, what? Just curious.

According to Wikipedia, yes.

Red = Life
Orange = Healing
Yellow = Sunlight
Green = Nature
Blue = Serenity/harmony
Purple = Spirit

If advocacy organizations for these were to request that a special flag be flown, the Fed Reserve might choose to do so. As far as anyone can tell, those organizations did not make such a request. A GLBT organization did.

The Fed says they wanted to celebrate their inclusiveness in employment practices and promote respect of diversity in society. If advocates for any of these other things were as numerous and their cause as personal as that of GLBT individuals, I'm sure their flag would be shown as well.

It's laughable that VA's law regards homosexual acts as a felony. I wonder how many people have been arrested and convicted of this felony in VA (or any other state that has similar laws). Why do they have a law on the books that's not being enforced?

The law may be on the books, however any law against private sexual behavior between consenting adults has been unenforceable since Lawrence v. Texas in 2003.

Indeed... which begs the question why it remains on the books and why this representative called attention to this behavior as a felony.

From his comments it appears he complained because he has a problem with homosexuals and homosexuality, not really because the Fed Reserve put up a rainbow flag.
