These right-wing media figures need to say something about current events, and so they pander to their Xenophobic listeners and reinforce their hatred of something 'foreign'.

Of course liberal commentators largely pander to their audience too, but becuase the audience is made humans, they can say a lot more useful things.

The right is always saying it's not anti-poor, racist, and xenophobic, yet here they are OPENLY bashing soccer because it's a "poor people" sport that the "rest of the world" likes, and it's part of the "browning of America".

Of course if you call them out for being racist, YOU are the racist. It's like they live in opposite land.

Yeah - and the largest majority in the US keeps getting represented (meekly) by the GOP.

GOP = Domestic party still concerned with America (some what)

Dem = Pseudo Domestic party throwing America down the well to acquire votes of illegals and to please foreign interests who pad Dem bank accounts.

GOP = got their ball taken away as children from the mean neighbor who happened to be a democrat

Dem= Got beat up by the republicans when they were little and picked last when the kids in the school yard picked the teams

"Give me your tired, your poor,Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" -Lazarus

unless your mexican and like soccer....
Nice troll attempt.

That argument has been shut down a dozen different ways already.
We let in TONE of tired and poor huddled masses. A relatively even amount from all different parts of the world, INCLUDING MEXICO. We let in a set amount and it keeps this country from being destroyed.
We have a formalized system set up for them and our neighbors south of the border choose to ignore that policy and just come over in droves, without paying taxes and using our emergency rooms like doctors offices and not paying for them.
Mexico sucks! If it were so fucking awesome people wouldnt be pouring over the border by the millions. The reason Mexico is shit is they fucked it up. We dont want them fucking up our country as well. Their attitudes about birth control and drugs are what caused their problems and we dont want that up here as well. They arent running from their problems, they are simply transplanting them here.
If you ever go into a Mexican neighborhood you will understand. They dont want to be the huddled masses. They want to be exploiters and bring the worst parts of their cultures here and wreck our society.
We let in plenty of legals every year and because of constant updates by the government, they generally stay out of trouble (or get kicked out) and contribute to American society. THAT makes them Americans. Of a wide variety of backgrounds which is exactly what this country is about.
It is NOT the United States of Mexico.

Take your racist ignorance someplace else. Its no longer appreciated here.

Well, why the hell do you have a soccer name then? I watch it on a Spanish station and when Mexico makes a goal the announcer goes:

SKOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORb.
It's my self-hate.

most of my HS soccer teammates were certainly not poor..........

Wow, that's a clueless post, when discussing soccer globally, widely and generally practiced amongst the poor, pretending your school has anything to do with that.

The guy I know from Ethiopia is a millionare, so all that crap about poor people must be liberal lies.

So the right wingers dislike "foreign" things, and the lefties dislike domestic things. Since I don't like any sports but the Caber toss (it's a very moving moment at the beginning of every season when the queen tosses out the first caber), I'm going with the rightes on this one.

Well, you got the first part right, but the second part is just what some righties tell themselves to feel better about it.

Not really. He was just pointing out that soccer is not class-limited.

And every year it seems more and more Mexicans invade this country ;) Coincidence? I think not! You have to connect the dots, look at the larger picture. Obama is promoting soccer because he is building a voting base. Damn the rest of America, soccer is what we need to promote to make this country more racially tolerant! And more Democratically voting!

This kind of post is the main reason I visit ATP&N. Politicizing the World Cup to fit the US left vs right paradign.

The two main reasons I see preventing soccer reaching other professional sports levels popularity in America are,

  1. It is very hard to integrate soccer into the current advertising business models which require commercials at regular intervals like for example commercial breaks between innings in baseball.
  2. Americans want scoring, constantly. Having 2 teams continuously kick the ball back and forth for 2 or more hours and end up 1-0 or worse yet a tie is too much for most of them. Watch them click the remote and surf to another channel faster than you can say boring.

Good point on #1.

Point #2 basically says Americans are brain dead idiots with the attention span of a gnat.

Given that people actually watch golf and baseball, two games which involve basically watching nothing happening, and football is the biggest sport in the US, (which takes 3.5+hrs to play a 60min game and still consists of most of the play time not spend actually doing something with the ball) I think there is plenty of room for a sport that offers non-stop commercial-free action, provided you actually understand and appreciate the strategy that is going on in the game, even though it only so often perfectly aligns. IE, its as much about the chase as it is the actual score.

Lighten up francis....

Well where to begin, well yes I have lived in various ethnic neighborhoods like the bronx and Queens and even the south side of Chicago-sweet loft!!- Saying one group let alone all Hispanic neighborhoods are exploiters and bring the worst parts of their cultures is frankly ignorant, racist, stupid, and just plain wrong. Generalizations are the hallmark of the ignorant so we do feel sorry for you but the outright hate is noticed.
Your comment about Mexico sucking is pretty funny as well and clearly trollish. Have you ever been there? Watching a Cheech Marin comedy doesnt count.....

FYI I did emigrate to this country legally. My Father and Mother got on the list before I was born. In fact my fathers entire family were already living here and we had to wait a long time. I actually think the naturalization process is very fair though somewhat overburdened by bureaucracy and cost. I have been here for over 30 years now and am raising my family here. I actually meant my comment very tongue and cheek since the absurd nature of the topic itself. The absurdity being conservative media demonizing the worlds sport. Throughout history the world cup and soccerr generally has done more for world peace then you can realize. During WW1 they would literally take time outs from fighting to play a match. While those events only happened a handful of times they do support the fact that nations that cannot sit in front of each other without shooting guns participate in a civil environment and compete fairly.

BTW that quote is written on the statue of liberty which stands for something. Check it out. You may learn something....

It really is okay for the US to have different tastes in its athletic entertainment. As far as I know, a low scoring game is no closer to god than a high scoring one.

Totally agree on point 1. Sadly, our media drives much of professional sports in the US :( A big reason why I seldom watch pro sports anymore.

Point 2 - Disagree completely. Have you ever gone to a baseball game and hung out with a group of friends in the cheap seats? Can be loads of fun. You've obviously never seen a rabid baseball fan get into a no-hitter have you?

beck is a conservative and he sas he "we dont like the world cup" Bubba bo bob from Kentucky and mary jo from west virginia will agree with him.

And I will guarantee you that the vast majority of the population of Michigan couldn't give a rats ass either. No Bubba bo bobs here. Just a lot of Wasps, Catholics, Latinos, and Americans of African descent. Did I mention that we are a fairly liberal state? Hell we elected a female Canadien as our Governor twice!. I expect it isn't radically different in most other states. Soccer fans have been trying to get Americans excited about soccer for as long as I can remember. They haven't had much success. As a culture we just don't really care for the game so why do they keep trying to force it down our throats. It is just as violent game as football and the fans are usually far more unruly. I don't get the appeal. It is pretty damn boring to watch if you ask me.

Oh and as far as Beck, Limbaugh, and Liddy? They are making an observation. Are they right? probably not entirely but there is usually a grain of truth in every exaggeration. That is what political commentators do. Exaggarate points to gain attention. Conservatives do it and Libs do it. The only difference is that the conservative commentators are far more popular that the liberal ones so they get a lot more air.
