Every 10-15 mins we have a complete loss of connectivity for 10-30 secs with our Wide Open West cable Internet connection. My wife & I are gamers & see this connection loss immediately when playing. Quite annoying. Our set up includes 3 desktops & 1 laptop sharing a Buffalo wireless router. The desktops are all hard wired. When we are experiencing the problem I have checked the third desktop & find it also has no connection.
In diagnosing the problem I removed the router from the equation by using my Netgear 10/100 switch (the ISP actually allows three I.P. addresses). I then dug our my Linksys switch & replaced the Netgear & still lose the connection. All that is left is the cable modem itself or something upstream.
The cable guy is coming tomorrow (Tues 3/25) & having 11 years of cable Internet experience I do not hold out much hope that this guy will know his stuff. What I am looking for is some diagnosing software that I can use to provide my ISP with actual logged data that clearing shows the problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to a freeware/shareware program that I could use to collect some data on this problem? Better yet maybe someone has experience with this specific problem & has some ideas of a fix.
Thanks in advance!
Joe S.
