Connection issues

Problem: My internet will randomly stop responding a few times a day. 90% of the time I can still use trillian, but can't get on any web pages.

I've tried all the usual stuff: clearing caches, cookies, and temporary net files. Ran adaware, spybot, and avg to clear anything. Sometimes a simple repair from the network connections scren will get things rolling again, sometimes I need to turn off the modem for a minute, and occassionally I need to reboot the computer before the internet will start working again.

I have a router and I use ZoneAlarm Pro. Is there a setting in either that I might be missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would try a root DNS server (4.2.2.1 iirc) and see if that works. ALso, what type of connection, and who is the provider?

I'm not too well versed on the networking stuff, so could you explain what you mean by a root DNS server?

It is a cable connection through Comcast.

edit:

Here are links to screenschots of ipconfig /all and my ZA settings:

Zone Alarm settings

ipconfig /all

I have to second the DNS suggestion. Try hard coding it on to 4.2.2.1 primary and 4.2.2.2 secondary....if you have a third option, try 4.2.2.3

Verizon operates these and they're up a lot more often than Comcast's are. They've been reliable for me for the past 6 months and I've actually hard-coded my router to use them for all trafic from my network.

This would explain why you still have a connection to something with a cached connection, but cannot connect to web pages.

Go into your network settings in Windows....find your TCP/IP configuration and set your DNS settings manually... There are usually 2 places you can enter those addresses.
