I assume you mean rationale.

It is that as a culture we agreed that some guns are more dangerous. Regardless of how misguided or correct that notion is, we agreed as a society that some things are just a bad idea and should be outlawed. Letting it fade out was a sign that culturally we had shifted to a permissive attitude towards this type of weaponry being in the hands of the average citizen.

Regardless of how toothless the ban was, it was a symbol that there are boundaries.


Now, can I get your rationale as to your little rant about big brother and the second amendment? And how it was a good thing?
 
I just saw Obama wiping his dry eyes trying to look like he was crying (phony as most things with Obama). People barely know the killers name and already Obama is talking about the need to address these situations regardless of the "politics involved". So the kids are dead just a few hours and Obama is already using them as political props. The guy is soulless.

"We" is a pretty broad generalization of society or our culture as a whole. Your statement does not mean that everyone agrees with you and that firearms or the associated equipment with these arms should be outlawed.

My rationale (or my little rant) is simple: The more the government takes away or controls in terms of our basic American rights as outlined in the Constitution the more "we" should be concerned. The more people accept this practice as the norm the more rights "we" lose as Americans. If you're OK with that good for you....I'm not.

It's not my rationale; I didn't author it: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Following the basic premise of the Constitution is always a "good thing".

Oh yeah? What guns are more dangerous? Looking at the 1994 assault weapon ban, it is obvious that the politicians have no idea whatsoever what's "more dangerous". The shooter today used a Glock and Sig. Handguns are the *least* effective weapons you can possibly use, given a choice.

In any case, I fail to see how society's overall ignorance (or as you call it, agreement) regarding the 2nd Amendment's true intent, i.e. the ability of the average citizen to own any weapon the government can own as a safeguard against tyranny, should infringe on the rights of the remaining people who do understand 2A.

But in that sense, 2A is already dead, because only rich people can own fully automatic M16's and SAW's. Laws are for poor people.

I watched many people at work today, men and women, wiping their eyes a bit as we talked about what happened. Myself included. Most of us parents.

I don't know how many can not feel emotion in this, especially if they have children.

Most schools have lockdown procedures in place, but they consist of locking doors, pulling blinds, getting kids in huddles in corners, or even evacuations. Unfortunately our schools are very vulnerable once someone gets inside. Increased entry security is best option atm.
