Hopefully somebody you love will be violently killed this year, then you can come back and I'll tell you how insignificant they were to the world...since thats how you feel about everyone else. What a fatalistic attitude.
That's a weird thing to hope for, but I'll play along.

If someone I love was violently killed, my first step in grieving would be to place 100% of the blame on the criminal party involved. The blame isn't going to be on their parents or siblings, their teacher or counselor, their movies, music or video games, or our culture. Every single day, millions of people around the world have the same shitty families, the same poor support system, and the same taste in media; those people never murder anybody. The person killed was significant to me, and that would be all that mattered. I wouldn't give a second thought to what some internet jockey halfway across the country thought, because it truly doesn't matter.

So lets stop pretending that your main concern is the families. Your main concern is politicizing the event. And that's fine, because honestly, how does this event actually affect your life in any way but politically? Just don't be dishonest about your motives.

I see. You expect me to post all my feelings on this forum.

Excuse me that I am extremely saddened by the violent shooting of innocent children. I am sad when anyone loses their life senselessly. You don't fucking know me, so DON'T tell me that I don't care about other shooting deaths that occur.

See? That right there proves you dont actually care about the world or anyone in it. Yur just an emotional child, trying to deal with things you cant comprehend.

What is hard to comprehend about yet another shooting?

Keep trying to spin to make it seem like people have irrational fear or concern about guns in the US. How many more shootings do there have to be.

Emotional child? I am SO sorry for caring about these children. I really am. Fuck be upon me for having a soul.

Dude, fuck you. I am not the one making threads about how I'm not going to give my guns up. Even if this tragedy did not happen, I would still be saying the same thing. I did not just jump on the gun control boat. How about you stop trying to pretend like you knew everything about me and how I feel about certain issues?

Your main concern seems to be telling people that the deaths of these children, these victims of yet another shooting don't matter because they only make up for 0.5% of shooting deaths.

We get it, Guns don't kill that many people so why don't we all stop caring about this shit and start worrying about Cancer?

I wouldn't give a second thought to what some internet jockey halfway across the country thought, because it truly doesn't matter.

Good, so why the hell are you here telling us these kids don't matter? Why did you feel that was so important to say? You don't care about them, you already made that clear. They mean nothing to you, so why did you care enough to let us know that they don't matter to you and shouldn't matter to us?

Good point, I never thought of that.

In fact we should probably limit free speech to things written on parchment with a quill. Its not like those old farts could possibly have imagined the internet, television, or ballpoint pens...

🙄

So what you are saying is that in the history of this Nation the Constitution has NEVER been amended to adapt to changing times? You're a fucking moron no wonder you can't hold a job.

Someone from Newtown posted on Reddit with a take on how people directly affected by the shooting feel.

http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/14w7lf/im_from_newtown_and_i_have_something_to_say_to/

It boils down to this: they don't care about pro-gun, anti-gun, mental health, etc. They want to grieve and they want the rest of the world to STFU. Which is exactly what I said earlier.

I'm sure they do, but this is about more than just them. Every time there is a mass murder we are told that it's just not the right time to talk about it... and it's not the time to talk about it until we've all forgotten again.

The soonest an AWB has a chance at clearing the US House of Representatives is 2014, and only if the GOP loses their majority.

People will have forgotten about this by then.

Tragically, crazy people with guns make the news every month now. There will be copy cats.

I dunno. The GOP has taken quite the political beating this year. They may let an AWB slide to save face, regardless of the NRA's influence.

and the Gun crowd will tell us once against that Guns don't kill people.

Blame the trigger not the finger eh?

How bout knives?

Ban them too? How will you cut your steak?

It's not just GOP vs Democrats. Many rural or Southern Democrats are pro-gun too. The anti-gun people have to be realists, making guns illegal don't make guns go away. Mass shooters will find ways to get their guns and ammo. They maybe insane, but they planned meticulously ahead, months ahead, to be ready.

Precisely, but you don't see any calls for banning or restricting SUVs.

While I do not support new gun control measures, the stupidity of this particular false equivalency has always annoyed me. A car is a necessary means of transportation and will, if used as intended, kill nobody. The deaths that occur through the use of cars are almost invariably accidental. A gun is a device built specifically to kill, maim and destroy, and the deaths that occur through the use of guns are nearly always intentional.

This is a fucking dumb analogy. Cars are designed with many purposes, none of which is to kill people. Guns on the other hand are designed to kill and destroy. It takes me 15 minutes to buy a gun. It takes me about a full day of haggling and credit checks to drive away with a car from a dealership.

It's idiots like you that fail at making a valid argument for your stance and all you're doing is making people who share your view look bad as well.

Stop with the idiotic comparisons. I'd rather see a guy charging me with a butcher knife any given day than a psycho pulling out a Glock and pointing it at my face.

Much like the car example, this is another totally vacuous false equivalency. A steak, cooking or pocketknife is in no way analogous to a gun. A dedicated fighting knife, like this, arguably is (I have actually owned one and sold it because it was so useless for anything I'd actually do, though you could use it for some camping purposes), but just about every other kind of knife has numerous uses totally unrelated to injuring or killing people.

Read the argument. I said SUVs not cars.

SUVs are dangerous (and unlike hi-cap mags and assault weapons, there are legit studies showing this), wasteful, and no one actually "needs" them. That's the same argument I'm hearing for banning assault weapons and "high capacity" magazines.

1. Quote the right post before you call someone dumb.

2. Calm down.

3. Actually comprehend my argument. Think about what I said for a few seconds, it's not what you think I said.

Again, this is a stupid false equivalency, in that SUVs are not intrinsically designed for any dangerous purpose. Assault weapons and high-capacity magazines are designed to provide increased killing power. Again, I am not advocating for gun control measures and own several "high capacity" magazines for my Glock 17, but your analogy is silly.

If you want people to comprehend your arguments, make them clearly and stop changing them midstream.

The posts we were responding to said nothing about comparing assault weapons to SUVs. Instead, you responded to the post "and the Gun crowd will tell us once against that Guns don't kill people," (a post which said nothing about assault weapons or high capacity magazines) by writing, "No more than SUVs kill people at the hands of drunk drivers." How is anyone supposed to extrapolate the argument you're now saying you intended from that post?
