Don't forget 100% fan setting in atitool. Max the slider to 637mhz and be done w/ it

adding another 4 pipes only give u a 500 point increase in 3dmark?......thats kinda wierd aint it?....... cuz when i turn my video options to quality from performance i get like a 300 point decrease ....how many frames less do u think that is?

No, because when you unlock more pipes you only unlock some pixel pipes/shaders. But 3d games utilize a lot more than just pixel shaders, and a bunch of other things like memory size/bandwidth, vertex shaders, Z-culling, and others will affect the performance. Overclocking is actually more beneficial than unlocking pipes if you can OC it high enough, because then you're increasing the performance of a lot of components in the card, not just the pixel pipes. For example when I OC'd my card from 400 to 570 I gained 1500 points in 3dmark05. Then when I unlocked 4 pixel pipes, I only gained another 700.

Also 3dmark is heavily dependent on vertex shaders because it uses a lot of polygons, so pixel pipes are only a part of the big picture.

Scary! Here are the current results from the Tech PowerUp page:

Success 55 : 6 Failed (last update Oct 31 2005).

That's a more than 10% failure! So I guess it's a big YMMV on it.

Just followed a link to x800 GTO's at NewEgg. Apparently they have a Sapphire for $164 shipped, which leads you to wonder whether the x800 GTO at stock speeds is a better value than a 6600 GT or 6800nu. It also shows that to some extent the Connect3D x800 GTO does have a price premium, it's going for $186 shipped at Monarch (before the recent free shipping and $25 rebate) and $188 at NewEgg. So the possibility of unlocking it and overclocking it may have factored into its price already.

What is the proper Arctic Silencer for these babies anyway? Has anyone tried it with an Arctic Silencer 5 Rev 2? Would it be worth $30 to add one or is it more or less fine with the stock cooler (and its huge glob of unknown thermal paste as shown in the Hexus review)?

Its $154 at Monarch after rebate

c3d x800gto $154

I think the 6 failures are due to peeps w/ Asrock ULI mobos. Most have sorted them out but you only have yourself to blame for getting a ULI mobo. Also seen peeps claiming they can't flash GTO2s but believe this is user error.

Most seem to like the zalman coolers. Looks like you see ~10-15c drop in temp and maybe some more clocks. I set my fan to 100% under load in atitool and w/ a 80mm fan blowing over it achieved similar results.

How is the ULi chipset (or VIA, ATI, etc. for that matter) affecting flashing the firmware of installed video cards? It took less than a minute to successfully flash my C3D X800GTO on my Asrock board - same as on my nf4 board.

I got one yesterday for my lan box.

I unlocked the 16p using the techpowerup article and using Atitool I pushed on the first try the clock to 560/580 !! I played WoW for 1 hour, no crash, no artifacts - with stock cooler and fan set to 100%. Temperature was around 70C, with case opened.

I didn't try more, I will install an ATI Silencer before doing that.

I it amazing. My original X800PRO AGP would not reach 520 !

Regarding the people that fail the mod, I am pretty much believe it is an user mistake.

People sometimes are just not able to follow instructions by the book.

I've seen a lot of people on the past trying 10 times and then getting it done. We had recently one example here at AT for the GTO2, the guy said it didn't work until he tried the BOOT CD, which did that automatically for him - user mistake.

The article says Connected 3d only. If your friend wants to try, he can roll back later.

Make a bootable flopply disk with the old bios and the proper autoexec.bat to roll it back automatically if it fails. Or have a PCI video card handy.

Do at your own risk. If don't know how to do it, don't do it.

Hey guys. I have a question. Connect3d X800gto ,all of this cards are moddable?
Is there not moddable versions?
For 2 days, i will have the card.
I want to know. Is there 100% chance to mod the COnnect3d X800GTO?

Second question. This card will work with power supply MODECOM 350GTF (ATX 1.0)??????????????

Hey I modded my C3D card to 16P on an Asrock dual SATA. The people who can't do it on an Asrock are probably not following directions.

Currently running both mem and gpu at 540 because I am waiting on a Zalman VF700 to replace the crappy stock cooler.

Do not use the "auto boot cd".....I could not find an iso anywhere that had the C3D bios. Just download it from techpowerup and you will be set.....it's not hard if you have a floppy drive.

if you only have the x800gto installed and no other graphics cards do the following:

Make a boot floppy by right clicking in windows and selecting "format".
rename the C3D bios gto16.bin
throw the flashrom from techpowerup and gto16.bin file on the floppy
reboot to the floppy dos screen
type following and hit enter: flashrom -p 0 gto16.bin -f
wait

you are done!

If you have more than one graphics card the GTO might not be "card 0"....so you have to figure that out with more detailed instructions on techpowerup.com

good luck!

Unlocked 16pipes last night and overclocked. Process was very easy if you stick to the article and what afrost just said. Bought my board for $180 3 weeks ago on newegg...which was pretty early on in the mod discovery I think. So it's hard to tell if the price has already gone up to account for the mod.

under atitool, I achieved a max overclock/mem of 600/545 when artifacting began to kick in. Temps ran 43 idle / 75 load with stock cooling and a 80mm Masscool fan blowing across the board. I'm running clocks now at 540/530 to be safe.

My board seemed to be more sensitive to memory overclocking. Anything above a 540 clock was showing a bit of hesitation. Will have to run 3Dmark05 tonight.
