Basically all of the Patriot Act is about to become permanent. The congress is to vote that 14 of 16 provisions will become permanent and 2 will be extended seven years.
Just like a third world banana republic which institutes regrettable "temporary" restrictions on freedom but then keeps them forever so has the U.S.
I won't go into the most egregious parts of the law. Even most of its ardent supporters say its pretty drastic but that it was necessary for the war on terrorism. Now it is to be the law of the land, forever.
