Only irrational people are afraid of nuclear power. I'm serious. Modern plants are safe, reliable, and efficient. Not one person was so much as injured at 3 Mile Island -- it was pure media hype -- but not one new plant has been built since.
It's not perfect, but it sure as hell is better than cranking out millions of pounds/second from oil burning furnaces. The argument against it is akin to saying that we don't like planes to travel from florida to seattle because sometimes people die in crashes, but in the meantime we take a car, which is slower, less comfortable, and increases chances of death. Nuclear power is the future. If not for the dumb commies in chernobyl people wouldn't be so against it. In regards with what do you we do with the fuel rods, just go dig up a mountain somewhere and fo'get about it!

Significantly less dangerous than having large tankers full of propane driving around.

Gain = Loss.

It will be dark longer in the mornings. Most people will not like this as it will be pitch black when they send their children off to school.

They need to abolish DST altogether.

The problem with fuel rods is that most of the powerplants are located on the eastern parts of the country. Most of the places that are more suitable for long term storage are on the western parts of the country. Relocating 2000 tons of spent fuel rods over thousands of miles every year is very risky. Not only that, but do you think residents in those states appreciate getting east coast nuclear wastes?

I'd rather it be dark in the morning and have light in the evening.

Yeah, and it's dark in the winter when they go now. I'd much rather have the daylight time in the evening after work rather than in the morning when I'm going to work or sleeping....

yip me too. makes more sense to have that extra hour of daylight in the eveing so people are outside doing stuff and not inside buring up electricty. I really enjoy my summer eveinings when i get home from work. it does not get dark here in colorado until 10pm during the summer.

Stop spreading FUD. Transportation of the rods is significantly less dangerous than half the stuff driving on the roads that most of america is blissfully unaware of.

Wake up an hour earlier, go to work an hour earlier, leave work an hour earlier, go to bed an hour earlier, and it would be the same damn thing!

Yes it would. The only difference would be when you look at your clock, which is purely psychological.

Just tell the bus driver to come pick you up an hour early and then short bus will be waiting for you and you can pretend it's an hour later, which is all DST is (pretending).

Here's an example. Living a little north of the 45th parallel, a lot of people here say something to the effect of "I love DST, it's stays light until 10pm in the summer". No, it doesn't. It's still 9pm when it gets dark in July, we just moved our clocks an hour forward to fool ourselves into thinking it's 10pm.
More examples... You didn't go to bed at 11pm last night, it was really 10pm. Same reason. You didn't wake up at 7am, it was really 6am. I could go on.

I wonder if all of the people saying "nuclear is the answer" understand that nuclear fuel is also limited. If we ran with only nuclear power, at our current consumption levels (no increases, ever), we would only have 50 years of viable fuel rods... and that's including the incredibly difficult to mine sources.

Nuclear plus petroleum plus coal plus natural gas plus wind plus solar plus geothermal plus biofuels plus depolymerization plus advancing technology = fuel forever

Yes, of course. But at the same time...work opens at 9...and I can't decide when 9 is for me and show up then. If the whole country changes time, I can go to work at a different time and come home an hour early and play badmitton outside. Its horsesh|t, yes...but its nice that when I get home at 5:20 its light out still and I can go for a walk. Otherwise, I'd just be sitting out the computer more.

There's a common denominator with energy and government. Reduce consumption. (spending).

This is a silly way to do this. If they want to keep (EST for example) -0400GMT all the time then fine. Stop swinging back and fourth. It's silly, plain silly.

Get rid of filament lamps!
