Conceal Carry Question

I always conceal in the summer. I wear my smaller walther pps 9mm IWB and my t-shirts cover it.

In the winter with more clothing I find it more comfortable to wear OWB, so I move up to my Walther P99. I am usually wearing a jacket or sports coat in the winter so it's not just hanging out there, but it is not concealed either.

I do however have friends who straight open carry. They do this because they believe it helps support some kind of open carry movement. They have done this for at least the last 5 year's I've known them. Most are also 1911 fans so it is large scary obvious guns. I think it's silly, but it's their right.

I also just realized only one time have I ever been questioned about my firearm. I was in Buffalo Wild Wings. Apparently my shirt had ridden up and a patron complained. The store has a no firearms policy and I was asked to leave.

I left without any issue as it is their right to say who can and can't be on their property. I also have never eaten there again.

It's not so much open carry being legal or not, it's the impact it has on 'pedestrians'.

Hell, go to a party carrying concealed and get a hug from someone that notices it. It makes others very nervous.

Most that open carry do it to show off, they have no other real reasons.

Keep in mind that cities can be stricter than the state laws. For example open carry is legal in Oregon, but the major metropolitan areas (Portland basically) do not allow it. If you have a permit for concealed carry just carry it concealed, you'll attract far less unwanted attention.

I carry a Kahr PM45 in a Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC. It's a nice setup, but a little large for some situations. I plan on picking up one of the newer .380's for places where I really, really don't want anybody seeing that I have a gun.

I subscribe to a guy on Youtube who used to be "wranglerbarn" and is now "wranglerstar". A little before he shut down the former channel, he did an open carry experiment that I thought was very interesting. He lives in the Portland area and before the experiment thought that open carry was not allowed. Apparently it is allowed for anyone with a concealed carry pistol permit? Just what I think he said anyway. He did go ahead with the open carry for a while and didn't seem to have much of a problem. Just a comment on what I remember though I may be wrong.

I have no less than 8 friends who open carry daily in South Bend, IN. Never stopped, never questioned. I do not conceal carry in the true sense in the winter. I wear my Walther P99 on my side and if my jacket conceals it then great. I have been in Gary, Portage, Lake Station, South Bend, Granger, etc and never once stopped or questioned, even in shopping malls.

Further more, stopping me without suspicion is against the law. The police are not allowed to stop you just to check your permit. I need to do something that would warrant it. When I'm eating dinner at Chili's, a cop can't walk up and ask to see my permit.

I'm sorry, what you believe to be true and what is actually fact at least north of Indy is 100% wrong.

I've read lots of reports from open carry people and police stops just because they have a gun are very common, at least in PA.

Try out the Taurus Millennium PT (either 140, or 145 depending on if you want a .40 or a .45). It's a great gun for people who find Glocks too 'bricky', or those with smaller hands. Also very inexpensive, which never hurts.

In co we have open carry so you don't need a permit, but some counties ban it. But as people have said, you look like a douhe if you open carry. Basically Denver and the suburbs ban open carry. For concealed it says "out of plain sight" so just throw a tshirt over it and you're good.

This happens more than those gun junkie hicks care to admit. Peoplenon glocktslk think they can open carry without hastle which simply isn't true. Police will always question you, an probably run your info to make sure you're legal. I hate people who open carry unless youre hiking or camping.

...
Either way, if I did ever get a permit, I'd still rather carry concealed. Unless you're in a very gun-friendly place, people will freak out. If I were walking around a residential neighborhood with a gun, even if it was completely legal, I am sure people would shit their pants in fear.

It's a shame that a basic constitutional right has been made so taboo.

It's a hard line to walk, on one hand I wouldn't want to scare anyone either. But at the same time, people need to accept it. Sort of like the people who say extremely inflamatory things just to drive home the concept of free speach.

Dear god, please tell me you will check with your state laws BEFORE you get a gun.

Way too many fucking urban cowboys out there nowadays. Starting to get a little scary.
