Conceal Carry Question

Electric Amish

Elite Member
1- If I get a CCW, do I have to fully conceal the weapon or can I just carry the weapon in a holster on my hip?

2- I would love to hear any recommendations for CCW pistols.

The wife and I are planning on going in for out CCW class next weekend.

Thanks!

Like Dwarf said it varies from state to state, but generally, no, it has to be concealed. Concealed means concealed. It can be on a holster in your belt, but you'll need your shirt to cover it. If someone sees it, it can be considered brandishing. Depending on state laws, that can have different consequences if someone raises a fuss (a good holster will prevent that from happening though).

As far as guns, that's entirely personal preference. I carry a Glock, one buddy carries an XD, another carries a Baby DEagle, my dad carries a S&W. Just shoot a bunch of different guns and decide on what you like.

You must be a paranoid nut if you think you need to carry a gun! What kind of areas do you guys live in? You should move!

Everything has already been covered. I had nothing to add so I felt left out. 🙁

Concealed means concealed usually. But in states where open carry is legal there may not be any consequences to showing your weapon.

I live in a beautiful area of Utah. I figure it is my right, so I will be exercising it.

Bingo! Also keep in mind how different the laws are depending on which you are doing. For instance, right now in Arizona you can't open carry into a restaurant serving alcohol, but you can CC if you have a permit (but permits are not required for a CCW).

Keep in mind if you "print" your firearm, like if you can obviously tell a gun is under your shirt or in your pants, you might have a whackjob call the cops or security on you. You will then be detained, and they could possibly fine you for "brandishing your firearm".

That would be utterly extreme, most of the time you must get a warning first if you are being totally legal.

It really varies state to state, go to NRA website for resources

If you have any questions just call them.

I carry everywhere I go and I don't go where I can't. That is just a rule I live by, I carry a Glock 19 as do most of my friends. The Glocks are great carry to protect yourself gun. One of my buddies just bought a Px4 Storm, he is however buying a Glock too.

Alot of states you can open carry without a CCW permit, though there are different rules for that like what condition you can keep your gun in. Again alot of this depends on what state you live in. If you are looking for something small for a gun, check out a kel-tec pf9, khar pm9 You may be more comfortable to conceal something smaller, the glocks and XDs are kind of bulky. you could even go really small and get a Beretta jetfire.

I would just make sure you carry a gun that is completely concealed by your attire. Whether or not you could get into a lot of trouble of someone seen it, I'd want it concealed anyway. If you wanted to show it, open carry.

Check out http://www.youtube.com/user/nutnfancy on Youtube. The guy makes some extremely great videos including lots of gun reviews. I know he personally likes Kahr PM9 for carry until more recently he prefers the Keltec PF9. If you are willing to drop to .380 or lower, there are even more options.

He has reviews on many (search or use a playlist) options. Also he has often mentioned how a lot of compact pistols aren't really compact. It depends on your body build and clothing, but most compacts (like a Sig P229, Glock 23, etc) are too big for CC if you ask me.

mostly you look like a douchbag carrying it on your hip.
so yes conceal it in any case unless ur a security guard or some shit.

There are many reasons to open carry. Some states allow open carry without a permit, so open carry could be a choice to save money or keep from giving the government more information. Other's open carry as a political statement for 2nd amendment rights.

But I do agree that most do it because they want to look cool or tough. That is a douche thing to do.

I carry a Springfield XD subcompact 40 SW. Using the extended mag you get 12 + 1, plus the extended clip helped me ensure a good grip. My home gun is a Glock 22 40 SW.

I liked the Beretta PX4 Storm, but it is one of the heavier guns and didn't want the extra weight. I also like the Smith and Wesson M&P series, but I could never grip it very well.

Keep in mind that cities can be stricter than the state laws. For example open carry is legal in Oregon, but the major metropolitan areas (Portland basically) do not allow it. If you have a permit for concealed carry just carry it concealed, you'll attract far less unwanted attention.

I carry a Kahr PM45 in a Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC. It's a nice setup, but a little large for some situations. I plan on picking up one of the newer .380's for places where I really, really don't want anybody seeing that I have a gun.

Straight up wrong information about indiana. (Only talking about the "must be concealed" part of the post.

I am a permit holder in indiana. It is not a conceal carry permit. It is a permit to carry a firearm. Open carry or concealed carry is 100% legal in indiana with the permit.

I have had a carry permit since 1982 in Indiana, and lived here my whole life. I should have worded that differently: Don't open carry in Indiana unless you want the wrath of God coming down on you. You WILL be stopped and questioned. I am a firefighter and have a few LEO's in the family, too. They said they would stop anyone that is openly carrying... Maybe not the letter of the law, but that is the way it is....

I have no less than 8 friends who open carry daily in South Bend, IN. Never stopped, never questioned. I do not conceal carry in the true sense in the winter. I wear my Walther P99 on my side and if my jacket conceals it then great. I have been in Gary, Portage, Lake Station, South Bend, Granger, etc and never once stopped or questioned, even in shopping malls.

Further more, stopping me without suspicion is against the law. The police are not allowed to stop you just to check your permit. I need to do something that would warrant it. When I'm eating dinner at Chili's, a cop can't walk up and ask to see my permit.

I'm sorry, what you believe to be true and what is actually fact at least north of Indy is 100% wrong.

Minnesota, like some other states, simply issues carry permits. They don't specify that you must conceal the weapon. Open or concealed, you need a permit.

Either way, if I did ever get a permit, I'd still rather carry concealed. Unless you're in a very gun-friendly place, people will freak out. If I were walking around a residential neighborhood with a gun, even if it was completely legal, I am sure people would shit their pants in fear.
