I run Windows XP on a Pentium 3 733 Mhz computer with 320 MB of ram (and a Radeon LE video card). Everytime i view a large animated gif in Internet Explorer (such as this one) the animation runs extremely choppy, and slows down everything else on the computer significantly. Does anyone know what the problem is?
Note: The problem is isolated to Internet Explorer; if I open the gif animation with another program such as ACDSee, it works completely fine with no slowdown

What video card are you running?

Back when I had a Voodoo3 there were pages that would slow my system to a crawl while any other video card would run it just fine.

I have a Radeon LE 32 MB video card. I don't think this happened back when I was running Windows 2000 though...

Maybe its the Radeons? Vortex22 said it didn't work well on his computer and he has a Radeon on both of his rigs...

Could be, but that one gif is an isolated incident... I usually don't have slowdown problems like that.

Interesting. I have the Radeon 64mb DDR and it slows things down as well. I had noticed this before, but only with certain animated gifs, not all of them. Most of the ones that did it had a lot of frames in them, like this one has 30 frames. Gifs with four or five frames don't usually do it.

I have 640mb of RAM and dual PIII 1Ghz processors. It doesn't seem to be memory related. My memory usage doesn't really spike but my processor usage will spike from it's normal 2% usage to 55% usage. I wonder why the Radeons would do this? Other than this I have never experienced any problems with the Radeon.

Yep seems like a problem with radeons and ie because the gif opens fine in acdsee and opera

Yeah, I forgot to mention that it only does it when viewing the gif in IE. The animation plays just fine with no increased proc usage anywhere else.

Yeah, same with me. Small gifs are no problem, but ones with many frames usually do slow everything down

Has been posted on rage3d several times..most likely a bug with computer configurations(most commonly radeons) and internet explorer. I get 65-85% CPU Usage with IE, and about 0-3 with Opera. Using IE, right click on the giff, properties, then close..you'll notice cpu usage will then shoot back to 0. IE Bug.
