software engineer in Columbia, MD making about $50K + great benefits (2 weeks vacation, 1 week sick, week off after xmas, flexible scheduling, vacation/sick days carry over, 2 bonuses).

so far in the 3 months I been here I really enjoy it :) and now i'm starting to get into an actual project here!

Wow that sounds pretty good! Maybe there's hope for me after all ;)

Oh also, i didn't have any experience at all in software developing environment aside from school. i had a job working as a bagger at a grocery store since I was 14 for 8 years, all through college, and I also had an intern one summer doing IT type stuff, but nothing to do w/programming.

I can't believe how underpaid some sysAdmins are. That knowledge should be worth more...

Anyway:
BS in EE but kinda doing more IT and working on MCSA
65K Base, 70+ after OT most years
Civil Service (i.e. Federal Government worker) for the NAVY
Been here for 8 years + summers throughout college = pretty good benefits

Congrats. Sounds like a good start. I interviewed for a position in Baltimore earlier this year. There were some really nice areas, but the house prices are so ridiculous that I couldn't see moving.

As for me,
BSCS 2001
Just started online courses for MSCS at DePaul.
Software Developer for 3.5 years. Mostly VB/SQL Server, VB.Net, and now moving to C#.
Mid 50's in Oregon.

yea i grew up in this area, south of columbia in silver spring right near DC. i went to school in college park as well, so i've been around here forever. i hope to someday get out of this area and eventually work on some type of stuff to do with movies. i am doing CAD software right now, so eventually i would like to maybe work for a special effects company doing inhouse cad design.
