Yup, I got me a puter Q.

Okay, so if I explain this in baby terms, sue me. It's the only way I can figure out how to explain the problem right now.

Whenever I boot my computer, most of the time my turning on the monitor and the tower gets me only an orange light on the monitor, the CD in my drive spinning, the fans inside my tower spinning, the power light on my tower lighting up, but nothing else. Period. Just plain nada. The reset button never works. It's a softboot button on the front and will never shut down the computer at critical times (my computer shuts itself off and powers down automatically when you click <start> <shut down>).

It takes my flipping off the (hard boot?) switch on the back, turning it back on, then powering back up again. Sometimes it takes repeating the proceedure once or twice to get it up and running.

I'm guessing that it's either a power supply problem, or a OS problem.

Help?

Most definitely not an OS problem, you're never even making it to POST.

Take it back to PC Heidens, have them fix it.

Sounds like a hardware problem. Ask around in General Hardware, maybe someone with more experience than I can help you better there.

Cool, I may just do that. What do you mean by "POST"? You forget that us laymen ain't at your level of computer-knowingness. ;)

POST = Power On Self Tests, they are a series of tests that check that everything is functioning. They usually test the RAM, keyboard, drives and vid. If the tests are passed the pc will boot.

Put another stick of memory in there and try that. Make sure the video card is well seated. Hmmm, if you're using a slotket, make sure it's seated well too. Bet it's the memory, though.

I don't mind HW questions in OT, it's a refreshing change!

seeing as I'm not creative enough to think of anything else to do when I don't have my PC, it will have to be when I'm not home or something. ;)

I had a similar problem, turned out it was the RAM. Everything powers on but I couldn't get it to POST, just like your system.
