I recently purchased an Athlon XP 1700 from another member on anandtech for $42.00 and I wanted to upgrade my existing 1.4 T-bird processor to that. I did everything textbook as far as the installation. I used Article Silver thermal paste and I have a volcano CPU fan. Here are my specs:
Mobo: Soyo SY-K7V Dragon Plus!
AMD Socket-A Based VIA KT266A ATX Motherboard
I was under the impression that it did support the Athlon XP Processor.
Here is what the problem is:
Upon bootup with the new processor we got one long beep code then that was continuous. That told me that the motherboard might not support the XP processor unlike the motherboard boxes' advertisement. So, then we went back to the other 1.4 T-Bird processor. Everything was done textbook style with seating it etc. Now, we get nothing. No post, no video, no beeps. NO NOTHING! What could this be? Did the newer processor fry the motherboard? What is the deal with this crap? I don't understand. All fans power up, we reseated everything that was inside a slot including AGP. We moved the memory to slot number two. The CMOS was cleared via the jumper to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks fellas.
