You are right u get what u pay for. I am a current CompUSA employee, just your typical floor grunt. I know alot about computers, which makes me a liability to the sales manager. As a compusa employee u are judged solely by your ability to sell replacement plans and warranties. My manager has re-supplied his hardware sales floor with former shoe salesman and pays them more than i make. Makes it sting just a bit more when the morons come and ask me wether this keyboard on the shelf will work on one of the new systems they are looking at buying. After explaining the wonderful world of PS/2 connections to him, i looked at my manager who was near and shook my head. It's all about money, and they want TAP (warranties). There are few of me left there and soon there won't be any. It's not entirely CompUSA's fault tho, i worked there in 96-97 and at the time we had a sales floor of people who knew alot, everyone knew the basics and some were getting close to getting their A+ or MCSE. We could tell them all about products but the fact is, the customers would go where it was cheaper. There are very few loyal customers anymore. Would any of you pay $10 more for something if it was from a store u trusted? Would a normal consumer realize when they were being lied to? Well i'll end my rant now but don't expect compusa's situation to change. They are going to be Best Buy without toasters in a couple of months.
