The front access port looks awesome. What a concept. Do think the PC manufacures will do it more and more

If you have to connect the cables to the back of your PC then wouldn't your case have to be open unless you have connectors on your mobo

You can take out one of the slot covers and slip the cables through there.

My case doesnt have an available 3.5 slot, are there filler panels so that one of these can fit in a 5.25 slot?

Adding to this discussion, looks like several vendors on PriceWatch have the Koutech KW582V2 card for maybe $5 or $10 more than this (NewEgg is listed, but it doesn't show up at their site). It looks like this is v 2.0 of the same card. Here's the webpage at Koutech. So, save a little money, or buy the newer card: always a dilemna!

As I've mentioned elsewhere, the Koutech site itself says:

Firewire card - KW-1582V is not a product which Koutech Systems, Inc. (KSI) carry in the USA. If you have purchased a KW-1582V from a dealer or distributor in USA, please contact the particular dealer or distributor for sales and technical support issues. KSI does not provide any sales or supports for this KW-1582V.

This card appears to be the same as the ComnpGeeks card (same number).

Just an FYI

This just allows you to take your wires that are in the back of the system and let the wires go through the case to the front instead of around. Nothing that couldn't be done without one of those little rotary hacksaws [forgot the brandname but it is the little tool that has 100000 types of bits/tools for it].

That bay seems really nice, but I get the impression that you have to run wires out your case to the back... that's good and all, but i try to keep my comp looking halfway decent, and running cables from the inside to the outside seems like a real pain in the arse... is this how it works, or am I wrong?

That's funny, I can't say "the-bay" (without the dash) since the engine catches it as a certain auction site... cool =o)

Hey Healey,
I might be wrong, but I'm thinking
that one of the 1.44 floppy adapters for 5.25 bays would probably work.
The color would be wrong & the screw holes might be a little different.

This firewire card, and several others I've seen, has an internal firewire port. So you won't have to make any mods or leave any slots open to run the cable through to the front access bay.

According to the description, the front port thingy comes with a:

One (1) Rear Expansion Slot Cover, & Screws

Basically, from what I've seen in similar products, it's basically a rear slot cover with a hole in it to pass the pictured cables through. Not rocket science, no dremel required.

interesting... i really like the "bay" that brings all the ports to the front... however, like you all are, I'm wary of having the wiring look messy. that last link provided looked fairly decent on the outside, but i wonder how the inside of my computer will look.

Thanks, nice deal since I've been looking for a firewire card. Does anybody know if this one has the Win 2k driver? Thanks

Win2k has native drivers for this one, it's VIA chipset (don't know if it's any good).

As Healey mentioned, if your 3.5" bays are already used, buy a 3.5" to 5.25" adapter, also from CompGeeks, for $2.75.
