I bought that front bay lasy week (not the FrontX...too $$$). They give you a slot cover with a notch in it to run cables out the back of your PC. The cables look like those audio cables that you connect to your CD/sound card on one end, and regular plugs on the other side. It's still pretty cool and makes a minimal mess. Well worth the money.

yeah...i would be REALLY worried about how my cables are going to look inside my case that is closed 99.998% of the time....you never really know when the cabling police will pull your case over and want to search it...

I have had the www.frontx.com version since the beginning ofthe year and they are fabulous and well thought out and modular to boot!...i am sure that those whoare interested will rwallylike them...

In addition to the the Front-X (www.FrontX.com; mentioned above) (and HighSpeedPC, which is a Front-X reseller), for front USB port add-ons there is

Easy-USB resold by Antec, $15, at http://www.antec-inc.com

This JUST extends the USB ports to the front (not speakers, etc). And, it's also a 3.5" drive in 5.25" bay mounting bracket, too. (I.e., it doesn't waste a drive bay).

Front-X is really expensive; the CompGeeks is a much better price.

If you are going to spend more than $25 on front USB ports, you should pick up one of the internal 4 port USB hubs that mount in a 3.25" drive bay, like this one at cyberguys

The setup at Highspeed PC will cost you $19.95 for the basic (which is needed for corrcet mounting of the "addon"), + $8.95 for the "single USB port addon", + shipping.
Total $29.90 + shipping.

Yep, I think the one at Compgeeks is probably the best price, considering it has line in/out firewire and usb and serial. I just ordered one yesterday, will let you guys know how it is if anyone is interested.

some firewire cards have 3 external ports and 1 internal port. The internal port is what to look for to connect to this firewire 3.5 bay thingy. READ DESCRIPTIONS CAREFULLY. Often called 3+1 PCI cards.
Hope this helps somebody

Anyone know of something like this but catered more to just the headphone jack being in the front? I work at a campus where they want to begin letting students use headphones on the systems and we don't want them getting behind the systems. A cheap alternative like the USB only Frontx device would be perfect but with headphone support instead. There has to be something out there.

the frontx is modular (or whatever), they have the headphone/mic/speaker output/input modules that you can get instead of/in addition to the usb one. Look at the site again. But I think it's like 20 bucks or something already, just the audio components, so it's not any cheaper...
