AMD has actually had to lower prices to compete with Intel, even though Intel is in the top spot. I dont know how much cheaper you want a Dual or Quad core that can go 4ghz+ with a few BIOS tweaks and a aftermarket HSF, but they arent going to give them away.

I would argue that the very reason we see the price trend in the following graph is because of Phenom.
Price History Q6600

As for how cheap the quads could be, I am not insulted by the prospects of accepting free CPU's. ;)

I'm going to be laughing my ass off if Deneb turns out to be the sleeper of the year.

as would I, especially if i7 does not overclock well at 24/7 usable voltages

You mean like AMD did to Nvidia with 4870?
:Q

i'd love it

intel needs to be taken down a solid notch

Penryn would still smoke Deneb even if i7 doesnt overclock to 4ghz regularly. Im not seeing your logic?

i am sorry you don't see it

if i7 doesn't OC, Penryn will smoke i7 also

AMD is becoming asset-lite .. and that alone will revitalize them .. it looks like their cash flow got a huge infusion

intel is heading in the wrong direction [anyway] with Larrabeast :p

Mark did your BIOS lose your OC on ya during a reboot? Compared to my G0 score, an 8min E8400 score sounds like a stock E8400 super-pi run.

Well, you are right, its looks that way, but cpu-z says 4050, and I was running F@H, but I shut it down and reran with nothing, same time. But its win2k, maybe thats the problem.

Oh man, well, there ya go!

I'd have a huge laugh if most of the real-world benchmarks didn't show significant gains. But that single-threaded SuperPi score is substantially faster, after all. We've got guys coming in barely under six minutes in a few cases, but no one's touching five minutes.

But that Core i7 EE at 4 GHz, assuming it's for real, represents probably a $1500 investment. Do you want to spend that much for an extra minute in SuperPi?

Then again, some folks here who should know have dropped hints that i7 will be the ownage, so we will definitely see!

I'll have to try the SuperPi run on both my boxes when I get home.

So they will have the top gaming chip (Penryn) and a 8 logical core monster on the market at the same time? I dont really see that as the wrong direction.

Stopped working after ~5 minutes. My system is never stable for these tests, overclocked or not.

Well that's not good, not good at all. Is your ram bad? A stock system should not have problems.

Even though this test isn't significant, I went ahead and wasted 11 min 55 sec of my time by running the test on an Athlon X2 (Brisbane) at 3080 MHz.

The significance of this test is that it is a useful indicator of the performance of a broader range of varying applications. Faster super-pi means faster other things.

I don't think my memory is bad, I've tried different sets. Orthos runs for about 15 minutes and then stops responding, i can kill it and get back to normal. Temps never above 40C.

System never crashes while gaming or anything else however so I gave up on the tests.

Yes, true, but my only concern with performance is gaming. And from the tests thus far, an E2180 @ similar clock speed as my X2 gets a 3 minute decrease in this Super-pi benchmark, but from a few of AT's articles these two processor are virtually the same in gaming applications.

Well, decided to run my E7200 since it hasn't been done it just yet:

E7200 @ 3.6Ghz, 4Gb Ram = 6 min : 55.5 Sec.
