Compaq server, RAID and Win2k

I have an issue with a Compaq server. It has 3 18 gig drives Raid 5. 1 gig C partition, the rest is E. The drives are basic, by the way. They want to ad another 18 gig drive to the array, and give another gig to C and the rest to E. I installed the drive, and it was added to the array. However, it was added to the array as a second logical drive. Windows 2000 will not support logical drive extension. Powerquest Volume manager will not work as the free space is on a seperate logical drive. Compaq says the only way we can add this space to the drive is to wipe the partition, recreate it and restore. I'm hopping someone here can give me a way around this. I know you can do folder redirection, but the need the space in general, multiple folders, and it would be about as much hassle to restore everything.

Any ideas

Nope, that's it man. That drive isn't redundant in it's current state anyway, D'oh!

Backup, rebuild the array and restore.

What Raid controller are you using? Most of the Compaq ones support online array expansion. You need to do that first and add the new 18-gig drive to your existing logical drive, not as a 2nd one. After that use Powerquest to add that free space to your existing volume.

What model of server & raid controller? I've setup numerous Compaq servers with various different raid controllers and almost all of them will allow you to expand the array (few olders ones that I know of would not).

Anyway, you do need a 3rd party tool to change the size of the C drive.

I called Compaq durring all of this, they said it's a windows 2000 limitation. I used the Array Manager, and they said it did what it's supposed to do. I am not sure of the server model, but I think the array controller is a 400 series. Sorry, I am not on site to find out for sure.
