Compaq Presario V5305WM Laptop - $398.00

Mine took a standard PC2700 SODIMM. Prices have changed since I got mine, so check crucial.com or labs.anandtech.com (I saw a Corsair for about $60 for 512MB.) Mine had two 256MB DIMMs, and I kept one and sold the other to make room for the extra 512MB. Make sure what speed these newer models need.

I know squat about laptops. Would this lappy be good enough to play flight sims like IL-2 or Pacific Combat?

How about a FPS like the new release of AA?

Anybody know if the video is upgradable?

1. yes... with details low-midlow
2. yes with details and resolution low
3. Highly improbable

Hmmm... Think it'll play WoW at minimum settings?

Also, how much you think it'll run me to drop in another 512 ram and maybe a better CPU? (I know nothing about determining what laptops support what hardware)

Wow will play okay at 800*600. I don't know if it will be good enough for endgame though.

Ram upgrade is very easy. CPU upgrade not so much. It isn't that simple. You will have to partially dissassemble it.

How can I figure out what CPUs would be compatible? I have no qualms about opening it up, I've just never worked with laptop hardware before.

I think it will take a Turion 64 MT-37, 2.0GHz 1MB Cache. I think it is a little over $120 on newegg with shipping. should get better battery life as well as better performance. but then you have to decide if it is worth it to spend $120 on a $400 laptop.

You can see the circular online . Here. If the link doesn't work, go to walmart.com, click on view your local advertised values, click on See your local weekly Wal-Mart ad, go from there.

I just called our local walmart...he said a lot of people are calling about it...he says he has 10 locked up..and might get more

What happened to "minimum 15 per store"?

Does: " Video Memory - 128MB DDR (shared)" mean it's using whatever memory the video needs (up to 128MB) out of the 512MB DDR it comes with? If so, should one realistically count on needing to add another 512 MB for general use of this laptop?

i called the 24 hour one and the lady said they have 39 of them and they are handing out tickets at midnight. What time should i get there and get in line?

Depends on what you are going to be doing, but anything intensive, yeah you will want to add another stick.

Is this laptop upgradeable? My friend has an alienware that crapped out and we've got his 6800 Ultra mobile. Can you put it in this thing?

Short answer--> No you can't.

I just called my local walmart... the guy said "the price is $539". I said "my ad shows $398" he said "mine says $539" and I said "well mine shows $398 so what can we do about it?" and he said "mine shows $539 so the price is $539".

Kind of a jerk. I may go in there a bit early to show them and see if they will extend me the $398 price.

Anyone know why in the world it would be $539 where I am at? I checked the local value ads or whatever on walmart.com for that store (and the other Utah stores) and sure enough, all said $539...

Got one. $398.00 +tax in Stockbridge, GA 30281
I called around 10:30pm and asked the guy when they were handing out tickets- he said 11pm- I got there right before 11pm and got a ticket from some dude in electronics. I was #5 of 38 units total. So obviously they were handing out tickets BEFORE 11pm 😉.
Anyway- drove back across the street to my brother's house and hung out (and ate some walmart chicken eggrolss-rofl) for 45min, then went back over and they started ringing people up around 12:05am and didnt even bother calling the numbers on the tickets... lol. Guess crowd wasn't big enough to care. About 6 or so of us checking out for one... easy cheese.

I live in a metropolitan area with millions of people and the closest 24 hour Wal-Mart is over 25 miles away out in the boonies...meanwhile there are 4 (non-24 hour) Wal-Marts within 10 miles. WTF.
