Always try to stay one step ahead of your enemy. If he hasn't rolled out any current tech, he either sucks or he's saving his resources to get the top-tier stuff. And if that happens and you're not ready for it, you're fucked.

Example: A guy is playing Wehrmacht and he's just using infantry after 10 minutes into the game. This probably means he's skipping Tier 2 and going straight to Tier 3, which has some decent armor. If that happens and you don't have any AT guns or sticky bombs, then he's going to roll over you.

Also, a general rule of the game is that you should never, ever hold in on a position and wait for the enemy; always keep advancing and taking resource points unless it's obvious that an attack is coming and you want to hold the line.

This game is a lot of fun when either A) you are winning or B) you have to very balanced teams and the game goes into the 1 hour plus long. Best way to learn the game is do some losing....

Definately! Those crazy long games are amazing! The map usually resembles the moon when the game is over heh.

You mean when your tanks and inf get glitched out because the crators mess up the map so good that they can move right....then they art some more and all your units die and you lose!!

Best way to enjoy Company of Heroes (or any RTS) is to never play against anyone online. Co-op with friends vs. computers can be fun. The single player campaigns are fun too.

It's been my experience that most people who play RTSs online are either way too good or complete assholes, usually both. I've lost before I can even start. I like playing against medium computers until I get good enough to bump it up a notch, and I like to take things slow. I can't manage multiple things at once, which is why I'm so bad at RTS games.

Playing against friends who are at roughly the same level is fun too. But you never know online, and the whole build orders and specific builds will get you when you aren't ready.

I'm pretty good at the RTS's I've played more of (SC, AOM, AOE3, COH) but definitely get bored with compstomps after awhile. I do enjoy playing with friends (we'll get on Skype and just bullshit while playing) especially trying out new and (occassionally retarded) tactics. Of course sometimes that leaves your ass hanging out in the breeze. I can definitely tell when I'm in "the zone" -- and when I'm not it can be discouraging (me and a buddy of mine have been playing different games for years and it will be quite common to go on streaks for a couple weeks where one is just dominating).

And I like fps, but my keen reflexes aren't so keen anymore :D <geezer soapbox>but I was the king of Doom2 and Duke Nukem 3d I tell ya</geezer soapbox>. I usually do better now in ctf or some such where some thinking can compensate for my inability to hit the side of a barn.
