I've just upgraded my Ram from 8Gb to 16Gb, my old spec was
Motherboard .............. Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4 http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3161&dl=1#ov
CPU .......................... Intel Core I7 860 http://ark.intel.com/products/41316
RAM ......................... 8Gb DDR3 1333MHz PC10666 (8-8-8-24) G-skill ripjaws 1.5v http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=224
I've replaced the RAM with 16GB of DDR3 1600MHz 1.5v http://www.corsair.com/vengeance-16gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmz16gx3m4a1600c9.html
However, after replacing it the computer will not boot at all, I've put the old sticks back and everythings OK so i didn't break the Mobo.
The RAM speed has gone up from DDR3 1333MHz to DDR3 1600Mhz as I was planning to overclock at some point in the future, my understanding is that it should still boot with the higher speed memory, you just won't see a speed increase that's all. Is this correct or will it not boot at all unless I put DDR3 1333Mhz sticks in?
