I've just upgraded my Ram from 8Gb to 16Gb, my old spec was

Motherboard .............. Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4 http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3161&dl=1#ov
CPU .......................... Intel Core I7 860 http://ark.intel.com/products/41316
RAM ......................... 8Gb DDR3 1333MHz PC10666 (8-8-8-24) G-skill ripjaws 1.5v http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=224

I've replaced the RAM with 16GB of DDR3 1600MHz 1.5v http://www.corsair.com/vengeance-16gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmz16gx3m4a1600c9.html

However, after replacing it the computer will not boot at all, I've put the old sticks back and everythings OK so i didn't break the Mobo.

The RAM speed has gone up from DDR3 1333MHz to DDR3 1600Mhz as I was planning to overclock at some point in the future, my understanding is that it should still boot with the higher speed memory, you just won't see a speed increase that's all. Is this correct or will it not boot at all unless I put DDR3 1333Mhz sticks in?

According to your mobo's memory specs, the RAM you purchased isn't listed as compatible, your best bet that I can think of is trying to mix the RAM, and then your mobo just MIGHT slow the other stick to match the older one, but most likely you're going to be unable to use that RAM with your mobo, sorry bro. :(

Thanks for the reply Virucyde, that list can't be complete though because it only contains sticks up to 2Gb, that would only give the board an 8Gb capacity as it's only dual channel. If i use the Gigabyte board comaparison tool it lists the baord as having a 16Gb limit which means it must take 4Gb sticks (not listed in the table)

Try setting the voltage and timings manually for the new ram with the old ram installed. power down, put in the new and boot.

Thanks gillbot, was just about to post that i sorted this out eventually. I just turned off and reset the cmos, loaded the new ram in and turned on, the auto config set everything for me. Everythings working fine now. Don't know why it didn't pick up the new ram and re-set it normally.

Boot up with new RAM and make sure your timings are 1600Mhz or less also put the proper voltage it says to put. 1.5v Im guessing.... Then see what happens.

Leave timings in BIOS to auto, that can be your problem too. gl and gb

cheers tweakboy, the board is a 1.5v board and so is the RAM so i don't know if that was it's default setting or it auto configured but it seems to be fine.
