Wow....this is eerily similar to what happened on the first episode of 24 this season, with a car being deliberately parked on the tracks.

If it's true that the car was placed there intentionally, I smell murder charges being filed.

Looks like he'll be charged with 10 counts of murder.
3rd degree, I'm guessing?

I wonder why they don't have some kind of buried metal detector or inductor or weight sensor at crossings? it could detect a car sized hunk of metal and send a signal to trains so they stop automatically. it's scary how easy it is to cause so much death and damage. it would be so easy for a bunch of terrorists with trucks to make as many trains crash as they wanted.

from what i'm hearing - the guy was trying to commit suicide, chickened out, left the car on the tracks, and then the trains derailed.
all unconfirmed right now.

If that was the case, he shoulda done what normal people do and not use the friggin car, just throw his body in front of the train or something, not use a 3000lb vehicle that could derail a train and take at least 10 other people with him.

i guess passenger trains aren't fitted with those V shaped bumpers to knock away or slice through things... i think they should have em though, considering how many people are on a train vs a car.
