I don't think people who hate the genre(s) I listen to are ignorant. It's not hard to sample what defines a genre and then decide it's not your thing. If a random song is part of that genre you know it has to somewhat similar to other music in the genre (or else it wouldn't be placed there to begin with).

Hmm... interesting that so many people here listen to music because of what is said, what the message is. Or at least part of why. I just care about how it sounds...

If judging an entire musical genre based on a fraction of the music in it, despite being told you're wrong and given examples proving it, isn't ignorant, I don't know what is.

I'd recommend some Aesop Rock or Pharcyde btw, though you'll ignore those suggestions because they hurt your argument. Must be nice to have an on/off switch for reality to use whenever it suits your purposes

gurck, what aesop rock album do you recommend? i think he only has one lp, right? the others are eps?

anyhow, i have the night light / day light mp3's, they are both excellent.

Gurck, I have heard plenty of rap back in the day. Stuff like Nas, Tribe Called Quest, mid-nineties stuff, etc. I've personally never cared for it too much. No biggie, I more than likely like plenty none of you would enjoy. I don't stereotype the whole genre, though I will point out that the stereotypes do hold true to 90% of what I do hear of the genre. Ignorant, perhaps. Am I an idiot, perhaps. But to be called an ignorant idiot in such a fashion, 'specially over rap music is something I won't let go idle.

Many people really aren't impressed with looping beats and some guy who rhymes about how well he can rhyme. That is all.

I want to get Fast Cars, Danger, Fire and Knives, which includes a book with all of their lyrics to date, just to clear a few things up.

There's really not much of a debate here, when I (and I think most people here) see something along the lines of "wut 2 ur b ne1", I simply *can not* take the person seriously. I get a mental image of a 10-12 year old eating a PB&J sandwich (with the crusts cut off, thanks mommy!) in front of an AOL-optimized computer, power rangers on TV in the background, visions of "pwnz0r1ng" people by calling them names dancing through his head...

Well ... IMO ... Hip Hop itself has evolved ... Its not just for "black" people anymore .. its aimed to everyone now .. hip hop or as some say .. "Rap" ... isnt just about sex, money, murder, and mayhem .. the people who make rap .. (well most of them) talk about their own lives and how they grew up from where they are from ... people who say rap = crap are just ignorant because they havent lived through what the rappers have lived through .. if you lived in a place where hip hop is around every corner .. you wouldnt be saying rap is crap .. for everyone who hates rap ... keep on living in your suburban house with your white picket fence ... when u do come to a place where you see homeless people on every corner go hold on to your wallets .. and run scared ..

it "took me a while" because i check AT like once every few days, and forget that i have a thread that i'm actively taking part in

and that IS slang, it's internet slang, and i don't type it because i want to talk "slang", i type it because it's like a shortcut. when i type what's in my head, i don't emphasize the "ur" or "cuz", it's just something that comes out naturally for me when talking on the internet.
