well, judging from your comment, you seem to believe the stereotype that all rap is about the ghetto, drugs, and b1tches....which yes i agree, suburban kids know nothing about.

but you're obviously only hearing what clear channel or mtv plays.

as i've mentioned before, try listening to: the roots, talib kweli, common, de la soul, mos def, black eyed peas, etc.

i dont feel like im a wannabe for listening to that music. they are rapping about life, some good, some bad, but i can relate to most of it.

anyone who says an entire genre of music is crap is ignorant. just ignorant. if you cant appreciate music from all spectrums, i really feel sorry for you cause theres a lot of good music out there if you open your ignorant, closed mind.

that being said, common does indeed own

Well, I'm here. I came in. I think rap is crap.

My response to anyone wanting me to listen to any rap is, "what's the name of the guitar player?"

ben kenney.

next question.

for those that don't think their are any musicians in the rap industry:

the roots

You call that musicians? I imagine that any first year music students could play that. I applaud that they're not machine generated, but they could be.

i dont understand why you dont consider them musicians. do they need to be doing crazy metallica guitar solo's or something? they are playing how they want to play. does everything have to be technical complex to be good?

It's not socially acceptable to hate a culture/race anymore (except in Indiana)... but their favored musical genre is fair game. Same sh!t, different day.

dumbass

Condoning murder, prostituting women, other violent crimes, and turf wars does not make for good music. If they have something new to say(other than Jesus thumping) I'll listen, but all I ever hear is the same old stereotypical rap crap. Give me pop rockers singing about drugs, depression and alcololism and I'm happy.

again, you are hearing that because thats what sells. the same reason shows like desperate housewives and cops are on tv.

if people would take a little time to listen to the less mainstream rappers, you would see that a lot of them have a positive message.

ummm....it was streaming. LIAR! 😉

No... you can download them. Search?

I don't think people who hate the genre(s) I listen to are ignorant. It's not hard to sample what defines a genre and then decide it's not your thing. If a random song is part of that genre you know it has to somewhat similar to other music in the genre (or else it wouldn't be placed there to begin with).

Hmm... interesting that so many people here listen to music because of what is said, what the message is. Or at least part of why. I just care about how it sounds...
