also for all the "RAP IS CRAP" lamers out there, LISTEN TO THIS and then pass judgement. THIS is hiphop, not that sacarin crap they play on the radio!

Who are you to define what hip hop is?

p.s. You probably mean saccharin

After 10+ years of hating "rap" I doubt one album would change my mind. BTW "Rap" and "HipHop" are in the same category in my book.

theres a difference. present rap is what you hear on the radio and see on mtv. its crude, its crass, and it gives the genre and all of its variants a bad name.

hip hop is more conscious, more thought out, more intelligent. it doesnt have to rely on discussing degrading women and bragging about what they got. it deals with the struggle and obstacles one may face. it speaks of life and love. it tackles political and social issues without making outlandish threats. a lot of times it will even discuss the decline our society suffers because kids are exposed to the aforementioned genre that is giving off the wrong message to our youth. in my opinion, thats hip hop.

Interesting...I've always thought of rap as a subcategory of hip hop best exemplified by those who say "rap is a music, hip hop is a way of life" or something like that....

Furthermore, a DJ scratching is part of hip hop but it's certainly not rap...breakdancing is part of hip hop but it's also not rap...and so forth

i agree with that, but i just wanted to quickly and briefly contrast the two without getting too specific. but yeah, thats a good way to put it, and i hope someday people become more aware that because what is selling and what is being heard everywhere they go does not reflect what the whole rap/hip hop scene is all about. it has deeper roots, and the whole bling-bling-guns-a-blazin' is by no means representative of all there is out there.

Yup...and what group of people created that definition?

I went to the site and listened to some of it.

My initial reaction was total and utter crap, though not quite as bad as much I've heard.

However I don't pass judgement that quickly, so I'll continue to listen to it for a few weeks, till I've heard a half dozen songs a few dozen times each.

Thanks for the heads up about it though.

is this anything like Atmosphere or Aesop Rock? I am not a big rap/hip-hop fan by any means, but I've heard a few of their songs and was mightily impressed.

i didn't know they were playing samples of his music from the Be album.

if they are, listen to Faithful and tell me what u think. also, it looks like they have a video for Go, and that's a really good song, haven't seen the video yet. btw, the intro of the album is REALLY good
