It's hard to explain why it bothers me so much.
Multiple radio and TV ads use that Irish-sounding song that was featured VERY prominently in the film The Departed. The Wikipedia page for that song (?) doesn't even list the radio commercials for Tilted Kilt and others that I've heard. I get the impression that each place thinks it's "their" song and they think people will associate it with their business / entity instead of associating it with an extremely successful film that won the Academy Award for best picture.
There was a point when 3 or 4 different commercials playing during the same period all used the song "Everyday." Target, Airborne, AT&T / Blackberry...
The current trend is to use the song "I Bet My Life" by Imagine Dragons. At the same time, it was used by a car commercial and a Las Vegas commercial. Now I hear it in the Microsoft Hololens ad. The most annoying thing is how they all use the exact same part of the song, and they all use it at the end of the ad - as if it's some grand climax.
I also feel a sense of rage whenever another lazy commercial uses the song "I Want Candy." Candy Crush Soda Saga is a recent one that comes to mind, but their other commercials actually bother me even more than that one.
