It is out-of-stock in Braintree, MA when I checked this morning, then I headed to the Best Buy in Fenway near my school. They have about 6 copies left, and I grabbed one.

They're selling it for $39.99 even though the price tag is marked as $49.99. I think it is an advertised deal.

I applied it with my 10% perferred customer coupon, and the total price is $35.99, I think.

I assume this is an actually pretty good deal, because all the other places are selling it for $49.99.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IF YOU ARE BEHIND A ROUTER OR SIMILAR !!!!

C&C Generals multiplayer support is PATHETIC.

The online lobby interface is TERRIBLE.

There are MANY reportsof issues getting a game going successfully.

If you are behind a firewall or router it seems MOST people cannot play successfully without numerous retries. This is even with machines who are in the DMZ and have followed all support recommendations. This is a serious problem for many and very frustrating.

Also, the interface is crap. It is so laggy and the list of players is so jumpy it is very hard to pick the correct player/game.

The game, when it works, is GREAT, but right now the process to get a CUSTOM game going with one of your buddies is HORRIBLE.

EA Games/Westwood Tech support is pathetic and always has been. I should have stuck to my vow never to buy from them again. I am still waiting for bug fixes to Red Alert2 / Yuri Revenge that were never made even though I don't play anymore.

Anyway, unless you plan on playing single player only or if multiplayer you are directly hooked up to the net then be weary! Some people are ok but MANY have issues. Funny how this is the only game company I have dealt with where I ever had networking troubles..

I tried using the coupon from the gift card. They had the gamer's gift card with the $5 of a purchase of $19.99 or more coupon. I purchased the gift card, left the store, cut it out, and returned with the gift card, coupon, and C&C Generals. The sales person and manager both said I could not use the coupon because it is for "console" video games and accessories only. I tried arguing with them, but to no avail. So I guess this deal is YMMV.

Reminds me of another Westwood game, Emperor: Battle for Dune, which in my humble opinion, sucks like nothing has sucked before (excluding Britney Spears). It was rated very well on gamespot, but it was shallow and just plain... sucky. Both of those westwood games have a 5minute eye candy impression, then you find out the game is nothing more than polygons and textures. WCIII rocks though!

Interestingly enough - if you read on the back of the package, there's a double-asterisked fine print saying that essentially says "EA reserves the right to terminate online services for this product after 90 days notice."

Welcome to Gaming Hell, gentlemen. EA is determined to become the Kingpin (just got back from Daredevil) of gaming.

hehe, it doesnt work on KT133a chipsets are stated in the readme file. One of my roommates bought the game and it would keep crashing a minute or two in the game. Tried installing on another roommate's computer and it did the same thing. Turned out both of them had the same chipset. I tried it on my computer (not kt133a) and it worked fine :)

Are you definitely sure? I may have to look for this issue. Can anyone else confirm? Also, can you use it at any retailer? Thanks

Media play has it for $39.99 and there's a $10 coupon in their sales flyer. Seems pretty hot to me.

Blizzard has a much better product than Westwood in terms of RTS. Warcraft III's depth is way more than CC Generals.

Those coupons were for Electronics Boutique, which is selling C&C Generals at the full retail price of 49.99. Now that the 39.99 price @ Best Buy is over, you could use these coupons to at least still get it for 39.99.

Man, did some people here get fired by Westwood or what? Why all the bad blood?

I'm not sure you'll find many people who agree with the assertion that C&C games suck.

If you loved Red Alert 2, you're going to love Generals.

John lol chill out. There are already been several patches, the first one fixed the issue with routers. I know because before I couldn't even connect, now it works just perfectly and theres way less lag. ;)

u know why they're working on a 3rd patch in 4 days? cuz the first two didn't work!! in fact the second patch merely fixes the problems the first patch created.

Yo,

Went to BB today and bought the Gift Card/$5 coupon first and then opened it up at security and went back to the games. I put $25 on the card and when they rang up the game with the $5 coupon they said I owed nothing becasue the computer though the card had $34 and change on it. They re-rang the whole thing becasue it was wrong of course and it came up the same so they let me have it for $25 out the door.

Sweet deal

Nick

I'm more of a lurker then a poster, but I just have to throw my 2 cents in on recent westwood games.

I bought C&C Renegade when it came out for full price; I've been a C&C fan ever since the first one was released when I was in high school. Well, Renegade was so full of bugs that it would just crash out of nowhere in the middle of the game. Sometimes it would crash on loading saved games, sometimes while fighting. I had a wintel Dell machine that should have handled the game no problem. The big thing was that the tech support forums were filled with countless others in my situation. Westwood did nothing to solve the problem, leaving users to try and tweak their systems on their own. Then one day the tech support forums were actually REMOVED cause there were just so many complaints. The admins said something like "Well, if you had specific problems you shoulda patched your system and contacted us directly. Since everyone here is just vaguely complaining about non specific problems we are shutting down this forum." This was not true, there were hundreds of posts with specifics, (I have this, my game crashes here, I've tried this and that) with no answers.

Well now Generals has come out and although I'm thinking about it, I still haven't bought it. When you have such a great game like War III as competition, which is fun to play and works smoothly, its just much more fun not to go through the hastle.
