This. This is hardly my first overclock, I just saw my thread from three years ago and thought that I was still really happy with the performance of my rig. However I don't use it so much as I used to. I game on the PS3, I surf at home on my Netbook and work on my 8Gb RAM laptop. It's uses are becoming less and less, but I still like having a desktop system.

Well, keep an eye on the prices of the 5850 in the coming year, dropping one of those in there would make for a superior gaming experience for the things which truly rock on PC's, such as FPS and RTS. For fighting and sports, I think console is the way to go though.

Ah, yes, definitely then. The Core2 series is probably one of the longest lived series of CPUs yet in respect to functionality/usefulness (which gets harder to do thanks to Moore ).

This rig is almost three years old and I'm still running it at 3Ghz. Running a CPU faster = longevity, as long as you don't push too far.

My E6600 computer is now officially 3 years old. It has been overclocked since day 1, running at 2800mhz and sometimes 3000mhz, both cores at 100% due to F@H, and it still passes all Prime95 stress tests. This computer runs all day and night.

This doesn't mean I'll start overclocking my toaster and anything else I can find, but it's nice to know that these processors are strong enough to withstand unreasonable demand for such a long time.

it's funny that a E6400 and decent P965 board would easily exceed $350 when they were new, and nowadays you'd do the i3+H55 that'll do 4.2+ GHz with stock volts for $195. it's cool to witness the migration of these sweet spots over the years ($350 in 2010 will get you an i7+P55).

in fact i'm seriously considering sidegrading from my Q9550 to an overclocked i3 for power/heat concerns. anandtech.com/bench suggests even x264 is faster as long as you have a ~1 ghz clock advantage (a shoe in) over the quad.

but yeah your system is ok.
