Maybe it geographical, I'm from Florida and a decent pair of leather flip flops is acceptable anywhere. Wear them all the time, jeans, pants, shorts, to the club, the beach, work - lol- doesn't matter.

No sandals though - I think they look too frumpy :p

I'll grant you that some of the heel-strapped Birks where not so bad back in the day. But those days are gone.

All of the examples posted by the OP should be avoided at all costs. You might as well thrown on the tube socks, and a pair of Jorts (minus belt w/ tucked in T-Shirt) if you're going to wear any of them.

thanks. I have a pair of flip flops but I only wear those to the beach. Can't walk around in them too much because they're just not comfy. I looked up sandals on amazon and saw that one pair with the 9 good reviews, but I had a hard time thinking they'd look good.

If you have a store like Abbaddabbas (sp?), you could check them out. They have a ton of sandals/flip-flops that are comfortable for daily wear.

so sandals shouldn't be worn at all then, unless I'm near a beach, pool or in my backyard?

Who cares? Go by what you're comfortable with...

I wear the crocs from my previous post all the time and they really look good. If you wear pants there is almost no way to tell they're sandals.

Women should be the only gender with exposed toes.

The only sandals I've seen any guy wear were Tevas.

Personally. I only wear sandals/flip-flops if I'm going to the pool/beach.

Where are all you anti-flip-flop people living? Seriously, everyone around the south, southwest and west wears flip-flops of some kind. I'd actually be surprised to see someone not wearing them.

The above is an exaggeration, but not by much.

I've had a pair of Keen Taos for about 3 years now. I use them a lot during the spring/summer/fall & they've served me very well.

Agreed with some of the posts above. I will wear my leather flip-flops or birks in any casual setting and everyone I know does the same.

If you are looking for comfort I highly recommend clarks. If have many pairs of shoes and one pair of sandals from them These

They are damn comfortable. I do not care if any haters think they look like crap on me because their opinion means nothing to me.

I don't think Crocs look real great but they sure are comfortable.

We have a Crocs Outlet store in the local outlet mall and are heading there next weekend to get a few since they are only $20.

I'm from Northern VA. Some guys wore Tevas to High School, but they were few and far between.

And my spelling sucks today (where, sandles). 4.5 hours of sleep ftl.

I like them, and they dont look like crocs.

/shudder yes, they look like crocs.

i rarely wear sandals except to go to the river in, and half the time i wear my water shoes there anyway. i do have a few pairs however, my ex wife bought them for me about every other summer. i have the doc marten ones, they are very comfy. the others i have are all nylon "sport" sandals, and fairly comfortable. none of them are stylish IMO, and im more likely to be seen in a nice pair of etnies or mossimo skate shoe. thats what i wear for yard work and such.

edit:

i do have to add that while i posted the above, i dont mind wearing sandals or even notice others wearing sandals. ill wear mine when the urge strikes, i just dont think they look all that stylish. and the reason i wear the etnies or the mossimos are they are easily slipped on and off, so they are quick shoes to wear.

Exactly. I'm originally from California and now live in North Carolina. In both states there are plenty of men that wear sandals and flip-flops in public.

Real men don't have straps on the back of their sandals.

I don't think Birkenstocks look that great, but I think they're at least acceptable. Flip flops are the only actual stylish sandal around these parts (San Diego).
