These are the best things around - blows away MP3 players, and are cheaper two (unless you get the unecessary, top-of-the-line models).

Other minidisc'ers should show some support!

Why should I take you seriously when you don't know the difference between two, to and too?

they both have their pluses and minuses. but i think mp3 players have already won out. Sony's netMD solution is horrible IMO. The only thing that's left for MD is live recordings. I still love the technology, just can't bring myself to throw much support behind it anymore for the general public.

I love my MD player. It's an old sony I bought off the FS/T forums here from another AT'er and it keeps on ticking. I record MD's from my mp3s or CDs and listen to them in my two hour drive home.

I had an mp3 player for quite a while. At the time I bought my MD player, 32mb Smartmedia cards were $98, and considering I could only get an hour on a 32mb card at best, $1.50 minidiscs seemed like a great deal. Not to mention the minidisc retained the quality of the source media. I paid about $200 for my MD player, 20 or so disks, and a new remote for it (one with an LCD). Totally worth it. It *never* skips and rechargable batteries rock.

I've considered an ipod and may end up buying one still. Can't bring myself to part with my beloved Sony MD player though 😀

I have a Sony Mindisc player. I got it cuz Sony gave us a deal, the $150 player for $30. I don't really like it, and rarely use it. I prefer CD quality.

as long as sony holds steadfast to that bull attrac format screw em. its a glorified digital cassette player.

Ok, so the guy doesn't know the difference between to, two and too. WHo cares? Honestly, I could care less.

Hehehehe, now where's Skoorb 😉

MD can't compare to the 234 kbps VBR MP3s I rip from my CD collection, which play on my flash player, my jukebox server, newer DVD players, and MP3-CD players. Rip once, play everywhere.

[must dig up my post ranting against the minidisc]

NetMD sucks!!! Its a worthless pile of crap. Nuf said...for now...

especially since many people keep even their cds as mp3 on their computer for easy access. no matter what u have to recompress mp3 to attrac for minidisc, what a waste😛 that or record again, what a pain.

Why would I want moving parts when I can get solidstate?

Because there's no skipping on an iPod, and so you can get more than a few albums worth of music at a time.

Nah thats okay, minidiscs suck.

I much prefer having a Discman that plays MP3s burned on a CD and also has a radio tuner.

Now if I could only find one that could also broadcast on a radio frequency so I could listen to it on my car stereo without having to use a tape adapter.

The day I see a truly affordable recording (good quality, from stereo microphones - or some sort of line-in) MP3 device will be the day I will give up my MD recorder... so far, I have not seen any device that would make the switch be truly worth it.

Why will there always be those little nerds who point out grammatical flaws instead of responding to a question or post? While you may not care to take me seriously, more important people than you, do.

On another note, you guys should seriously look at the size of Minidisc Recorder/Players. While CD players are very nice, their size really takes the "portable" out of portability.

I've seen one of those, although I can't recall at the moment what it's called. Around $30 I believe.
