Comcast using my house as a node?

I live in Richardson, which is a suburb of Dallas, Texas. Anyways so they send me this letter home saying they doubled my download and not my upload. Then i notice this huge cylinder green thing infront of my house. Basicaly, i know for a fact that they dont need any equipment to increase my DL speed, and it looks like they are using my neighborhood as a node as every house in my block that has Comcast seem to have a green cylinder infront of their house. The only internet option in my area is either comcast, or SBC dialup as DSL (version and sbc) is not available. Im just waiting for verizon to come into the darn area as they give 100k upload, but cable is faster than DSL.

1. Can they put equipment like that without asking?
2. Can i use it to bargin for more upload speed? (double or triple)
3. Anyone have similar experience?
4. Does tech support have the power to change your speed, or shall i have to complain to higher ups?
 
They can put that on your land without your permission. I'm just surpised that they did it without even telling you. Verizon did a similar thing to give my area DSL access a couple weeks ago.

Do you have a sidewalk in front of your house?

If so, is past the sidewalk (closer to the road?)

If so, then that's the city's land, not yours and they can do whatever they want if they dealt with the city.

you are not a special person. you will not be treated any different than anyone else, you egotistical bastard. of course they can put that green cylinder in your yard, otherwise it wouldn't have been profitable for them to do it, and therefore they wouldn't have done it. you have no recourse. give it up.

How old are you? 15? The cable is in an easement for which you have no control. Even if it was on your property and you told them it couldn't be do you know what they would do? Remove the line and refuse to service you. You should talk to your parents about such things.

darn...thats really annoying tho since the green cylinder is about three feet high, makes the house look ugly especial when i already have a huge green electrical box already on my land.

Thats what you assume. My parents dont use the internet, the only reason im waiting is for DSL but i was thinking i could bargin.

Unless the land is subject to any easements of record, which more than likely are referenced in his/her deed.

Verizon probably has an easement on your land (and heck, probably everyone elses in your area)
 
I don't know about bargaining for more upload speed, but if it makes the house look ugly because it's so big, I'm sure they could move it. What exactly does this cylander do?

When you grow up you will understand property, Rights-of-way, easements and how to find out what they are and where they exist on your property. And the world doesn't revolve around you. You should be happy that cable is even available to you.

Like i said, i believe its a node. Let me explain...My area is quite divided when it comes to the internet. Just one mile down you see a huge SBC service station and 2-3 miles down you will see a Comcast internet service station. Basicaly, comcast is trying to get into SBC's area by increasing their service coverage area. As simple as that, so i believe the 3 feet cylinder is actualy a node to service cable internet further into the area. I dont know but its an educated guess.

If it's the same thing I'm thinking about, it's simply just a cable hub, where all the underground cable lines from other houses on the street link up in this box (for service) and the cable signal comes to this box which is despersed to the connected ports.

Check local laws. Most likely since it's a utility item there isn't anything you can do about it. If there it is a significant detriment to your property value, that's probably the only arguing point you have. Either way, trying to fight this battle to get some stupid upload speed is retarded.

No, its not for the neighborhood as my neighborhood is seperated by major streets and a rail road. Basical its a piece of land which includes under 50 houses. Its not like most neigborhoods which are huge and connected by many streets. So i dont see why they would need so many cylinder boxes as there are actualy two near my house and many others down the street. I've seen the small one and a half foot ones but these are huge, its just a little shorter than my mail box.

It could lower the property value as not only is it one but its two of them...and i already have a huge green electrical box next to my house.
