comcast users?

I just got basic cable thru comcast. I have heard many opinions that they suck. Why is that? Can I buy my own hd cable box to use and plug in? How does that work? My current non hd box has a 2-3 sec delay when switching channels. Will a better box change it faster?

Comcast is a horrible, evil entity. I don't like them for my own personal reasons, but if they wind up being good for you, then awesome

As many times that I've said Comcast sucks one would assume that I do think they suck. However, I guess they probably don't really suck and I am just pissed off that if I get pissed off I have no recourse but to go to satellite who will in turn probably piss me off and make me want to go back to Comcast. There is also the fact that I have no other choice for high speed internet so if I am unhappy I really have no recourse other than going to dial up. Not really an option and that also pisses me off.

So yeah, I don't really think they suck as much as I think the industry itself sucks.

(I feel better now 🙂 )

I have comcast for internet. I can't speak for television.

My connection is extremely unreliable. It will go out for several hours. I will call and they will say they are looking at my connection. They will say they don't see anything wrong then all a sudden the sync light will come back on. It has happened at least 3 times and each time I ask what they did. They claim they did nothing.

My Comcast service blows, though the tv service has been mildly better in the last month or so. The signal used to become blocky and audio skip for a second or two every 15 minutes or so (randomly). I don't notice it anymore, but that might because I've been using the free-ondemand stuff instead of the normal channels lately. Also, my internet service has horrible latency and gets ridiculously slow between 7 and 11PM.

You think that's bad? Try living in the home of Comcast, Philadelphia. ComCrap holds a monopoly over the ENTIRE city. I pretty much have no other options for TV and internet. DirecTV isn't available in all places, and the only other broadband available is AT&T DSL. Assuming I was able to get DirecTV and AT&T DSL, the combined price would be even more outrageous.

So you're complaining that the competition can't compete? Sounds like you want to hate the leader and innovator for offering such service at such a low price.

You said it yourself - you have options you just think they are too expensive. That is not a monopoly.

you're getting jacked then.. either that or you're a bad negotiator.

i'm in denver, and i'm paying $140 for Premium, Internet and Phone... i get HBO/Starz with that price too.

All i had to do was call them and tell them my previous rate was too expensive.

There's no point. You can't get HD cable channels without a HD plan.

i called them at the end of my trial (80/month) to cancel
they only offered to downgrade tv and internet and retain the same 80/month price (thats not a discount)

i called a second time to cancel... they said "go ahead and bring the boxes back to the office"

i called a third time to cancel.... they said "go to the office to cancel"

so, no attempts at customer retention. i went to direct tv & qwest and i love it. FASTER, better quality, cheaper. only prob is contract but i dont care

Comcast finally pissed me off one time too many so i ditched them and went with RCN. Service has been solid and I have had no complaints yet.

Did you mention you were cancelling due to rate? If you just said you want to cancel, then they tried helping with what you wanted. I didnt speak to their cancel dept.. i spoke to their billing dept... they helped me on my first call

they asked why - i said (truthfully) that the rates were too high compared to direct tv and dtv has more HD channels.

they didnt attempt to price compete... so thats that

They may or may not be expensive and/or evil, but they've always delivered the services they promised in reasonably high quality with decent customer service. Maybe I'm just lucky though.

TV pisses me off because I believe if we pay for their STANDARD CABLE (not basic), and get channels like ESPN, etc we should rightfully obtain their HD versions. Why the fuck should I pay for digital service to get the digital versions of what I have already? I already get QAM local channels which I can watch in HD, why can't I watch my NBA in HD? Oh and why should we have to use a stupid tuner box when our TVs have tuners already? AHEM. Ok the encryption I get, but stop trying to tell me I can't watch HD without your stupid box because I HAVE A HD TUNER IN MY TV.

Just recently I pissed off a Comcast telemarketer when he called me to sign me up for cable. Having had a bad experience with Comcast cable previously, I now have Dish Network and am pretty happy with it. I told the guy that I wasn't interested. He asked me why and I told them not only that they are uncoordinated, have shitty service and outrageous prices, they're also squeezing HD channels into limited bandwidth thereby reducing the quality of the channels. I referred the guy to the thread in AVSforums though he didn't ask for it. The guy was pretty rude when he hung up but it didn't bother me much since I have pretty low expections from Comcast.

Their service seems to be good for me, few interruptions, good internet speed.

Price is ridiculous. For basic cable in my area (no digital, no box) price is hitting closing to $60/month, internet is about $42. Most they would give me off my bill is $15 so instead of $100/month, it's $85. When that expires next month I'll call again and hopefully they will try to retain me so I don't have to hassle with switching service.

I also hate their non-stop bombardment of advertisements. Commercial after commercial on TV, mailings every week, it just doesn't end.

If you move or cancel, good luck with that, especially if you have auto pay set up for your account.

I bet I'll have to call to get my current billing adjusted.
