Comcast users...

Comcast actually has its own newsservers which are fairly decent. Great speeds, great completion rate, and 1-2 days retention time. the address is netnews.comcast.net. You don't need a login name or password. In addition to the comcast newsgroup, I also use astraweb. It's only $15/month for unlimited downloads. Astraweb also has great speeds, good completion rate, and probably around 4-5 day retention time. I've been with Astraweb for close to a month and haven't had any major problems besides maybe a couple 2 hour downtimes here and there.

Damn, that is an awesome price if those retention rates are true.

the beauty of easynews is their web site contains every file posted to every Usenet newsgroup in the last 25 days

EasyNews rocks but it's not enough GB's for the money. I use the Comcast giganews for 1GB a month and Giganews 10.5GB for $11.99/mo. Works out pretty well. I tried a bunch of those unlimited services and I found the retention sucked and uptime/speed was iffy. Don't recall if I tried astraweb or not, I think I did.

Wolfsraider, who do you use?

How can I learn if Comcast is planning to bring internet service in my area? When I call their tollfree line, they don't know anything about the subject.

I seem to recall them having something on their site that would check your zip code. From there I think you can request information.

How is that even possible? I mean.. I know it's possible, but where does all the data go?!

You must have a rackmount 1TB storage center sitting in your closet. 😛

Go to the website and type in your zip?

Hmmm, well they have an information request form, but I was just curious if any of you already knew anything about this 🙂

Do you use the GigaNews service for NNTP? It has a quota of 1GB per month which is pretty skimpy ... 🙁

yeah it ticks me off.

i hate the 1gig limit. wish they had like 3+

Yeah I used Giganews when I first signed up for comcast, and 1 Gig goes FAST! I've been using Easynews before I had comcast and 6 Gigs/month is good enough for me.
