why? cable spec is 30Mbps so why would they be scared? all they need to do is bump it up again....at no charge to them and pass the savings on....like I said, they've been ripping their customers for years now...

It doesn't work that way. Although the line itself may be able to carry 30 mbps+, their backbone/switching equipment is the bottleneck, not the cable itself.
Exactly.

How do you think Comcast's servers get on the 'net? They have to pay for bandwidth too.

FIOS...FIOS....FIOS...FIOS....FIOS...FIOS....FIOS...FIOS....

QFT, verzion is laying the fiber in my 'hood now. I hope to get FIOS soon...

Exactly. FIOS - 15Mbps down / 2 Mbps up = $45!

Comcast better hope Verizon doesn't come into their territory, because they are going to get b!tch slapped! 🙂

Um dude, Verizon's fiber network has WAY more headroom than 30Mbps. As a matter of fact, they offer 30Mbps down / 5 Mbps up for $199 NOW. And like I said, I'm sure they can kick it up to 100Mbps EASY, and they are also going to offer telephone service (VOIP) and video on demand through their FIOS service soon. You want to ask again why Comcast would be scared?

sounds good, but:

2. Can I hook up more than one computer with a single Verizon Fios Internet Service connection? Yes. Verizon Fios Internet Service offers you the ability to create a home network so that multiple computers can be online at the same time. You will select a router with your order and you will need to use the Verizon router with your service.

screw that. why can't you use your own router?

No you don't. You can use your own router just like any other broadband service.

SBC DSL:

1500/384 = $14.95
3000/384 = $24.95

A little more cost effective.

I wish they would add a 6000/768 = $34.95 though.

...

Stupid Comcast! I'm gettin 1.7 down right now while I was getting 2.8 about six months ago. I haven't changed anything and I'm paying the same price. So why am I getting pumped up the a$$?

I called and complained and they tell me it's my computer and told me not to play so many games (not online games, just games on my computer, since somehow it slows down the internet). Man I wanna kick them in the nuts!

Because it's a specialized modem/router combination. Don't like it? DMZ your own gear in behind it.

I'll stick with DSL for $24.95. It'll be upgraded by next Wednesday to 3.0/368. I was told since I'm less than 200 feet from our repeater, I could possibly see higher speeds.

I wont pay another dime as long as i can help it to comcast. They suck so bad. As soon as Verizon brings fios to my area, peace love and hair grease to comcast.

I've just been told I will move up to 10mbps in the next two weeks. Our city has fiber throughout and they offer phone/cable/internet for some really sweet prices. I was with their previous provider and got 512 and phone for $55. They now have a new provider who only offers 10mbps. They raised the prices to ~$70 for phone and net, but they will honor my price point til the end of the year!
