Hmmmm metered system. If you go over 300 GB they charge you $10 extra per 50 GB.
So, if you only download 250 GB, they credit your bill $10, right? Right? RIGHT???
300GB a month is an insane amount of data. It's like 2 DVDs of data per day, every day.
If you have those needs, one should be on a business account.
Comcast is turning into a glorified cell phone company now.
I had to sign an agreement with them last night to lower my bill with them by $60, but had to sign a 2 year contract. When the fvck did cable companies start making us have contracts with them just to keep our prices reasonable??
Fack this noise, Fios needs to start becoming wayyyy more popular.
Seems reasonable now, but it won't seem reasonable in 5-10 years and I highly doubt Comcast will raise the numbers a the same speed normal usage increases.
Nobody cares right now because it seems reasonable, then we all get used to the plan, then in a few years they can start charging extra as the average person uses over 300GB a month.

LOL at projecting out 5-10 years.
I received this e-mail earlier from Comcast about overage charges:
The gist is that if you go over 300GB, you get charged $10 and allotted another 50GB. That will then happen again if you go over 350GB and ad infinitum. Although, you won't get charged for the first three times you go over.
I wonder if I need to upgrade to a business account. :hmm:
I'm okay with the concept of caps and people paying more if they use more, but with bandwidth margins increasing for businesses (I know cable companies whine about power users but this part of their business is a huge money maker and bandwidth is coming down in cost fast), it seems another way to screw certain users.
Charging you if you go over 300GB is fine, but $10 per 50GB is fucking outrageous. It doesn't cost them anywhere damn close to $10 for 50GB. They are doing it because you probably have no other options for high speed in your area.
300GB is about 100 hours of HD video. Seems like a lot (3 hours/day), but with enough people in your house you could hit it fast. If you're a cord-cutter, most of your stuff is streamed.
I agree that a lot of the heavy users are just torrenting tons of shit they don't need/won't even ever watch.
My cable provider, Mediacom, has 250GB enforced cap. It was enacted month ago. Wait and see, most of them will do this by the end of this year. The debate guys is Comcast and their 300GB cap. Other providers are more lenient, but they have smaller networks more than likely and different things going on.
So much fail in this thread.
First off, Comcast does not just sell business accounts to individuals. So the argument some are making that people should just get a business account is not valid.
Secondly, the idea that everyone, or most people, who do a lot of downloading is false. Or lets just say there is no evidence to prove it.
Finally, and this is the big one. The only real issue is the number of people who download during peak times. ISP's have a responsibility to build up their networks so that during peak times a very large majority get peak or near peak speeds. During non peak hours ISP's have huge amounts of excess capacity.
If ISP's really wanted to free up bandwidth during peak hours, than they could boost speeds during times of limited demand and allow heavy users to do their downloading at the off times.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Sheesh... your football posts make you look stupid enough. You should have quit while you're ahead.
Comcast will sell a business class account to anyone that will want one. Go ahead, ask me how I know.
I know that they required my ein number or the business registry from my State.
btw the issue of usage is very similar to the cell phone issues of few years ago. When the cell system was not fully built out they often gave you unlimited minutes during off peak times. Now that the cell system has expanded they have dropped those plans.
the can also use your social
I can set up a business account for rudeguy inc without an EIN
I can't speak for anyone but myself and the other posters in this forum who have, from time to time, said they needed some proof to set up a business account.
So the self-employed contractor who has no actual "employer", EIN or registered business in your state is shit out of luck? Heh... you're gullible. Either that or Comcast just hates you.
