comcast issues

Everything has been working fine for 2 years until 3 days ago.

When I try to go on the internet, it send me to the comcast activation page. I reboot everything, issue still occurs. I call Comcast, they do their "magic", then tell me to hook my computer straight to the cable modem. After i reboot the modem, everything works.

I hook the router back up, it brings me back to the Xfinity activation page. I call Comcast again...spend an hour with the tech with no solution. They put me on hold for the upper level. After waiting 30 minutes, they gave me the option to get a call back, so i picked.

I poke around my network settings and see that my local dns is 0.0.0.0 on the router. Not sure why it was that, but it was supposed to be the google 8.8.8.8 address. Rather than mess around, I get the regular DNS server (by hooking my computer up) and boom, it works.

Fast forward 2 hours later (1AM in the morning), the upper level tech calls me back and leaves a message on my cell.

Fast Forward to today....the issue is happening again. Not sure what to do now. I re-entered the DNS server (got a new number from hooking my computer to the modem) and the issue still occurs :(

So, what magic do I need to do with my router?

I have a Moto WR850G with DDWRT.

Try this site for help.
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/comcast
The site is Broadband Reports.
You will have to join (free to join) then you can post your question.
When you log in it is to the HSI or high speed internet section.
There is also a "Comcast Direct" link there. You can use that to ask a "Comcast Tech" or whatever they are for help.

sounds like a provisioning error. they have folks on the forums to listen and escalate but good luck. i ditched comcrap for uverse and amazed the service level is 100x better. it's sad because i miss the speed but what good is speed if not reliable??

5 years of comcrap madness - now i have 0% packet loss over 24 hours. that's like 1 packet (and i'm wifi). comcrap would be 1-2% packet loss - especially when i need to VPN/RDP - drove me insane.

You are pulling wallgarden config. Comcrap has different tiers now, way more than ever, so have them look into it. Your modem should pull config corresponding to your paid plan, bronze, silver etc.

Its called a Comcast General error. Get use to it. They haven't been voted worse ISP for a couple of years for nothing.

problem has been fixed. I have to go into each computer and enter the 8.8.8.8 DNS address. I asked Comcast to look into it, they say it is not on their end.

Just enter 4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.3, 4.2.2.4 into your router DNS. The most reliable ones. No need to change individual end user.

Will try. I got pissed when i realized that my zune does not have a setting to change the DNS. Hopefully that works.

Someone on another forum suggested that i also cone mt mac address on the router to the mac on my computer. i will try that also.
