Colorado burning up!! two new fires by me in Boulder.

I saw them coming back from boulder today. Word is they were caused by lightning from the rain.

Regional disasters are big news to local residents but are of passing interest to people far away. When the media reports on a story like a wildfire at the national level, the viewers go "wow", and lose interest quickly.

The only thing that seemed remarkable to me was the fact that fire fighting air force planes sat idle on the runway ten miles from the Colorado Springs fire until someone at the Pentagon was informed that the Air Force Academy might be threatened.

Actually, that's not true at all. The Academy isn't threatened at this time. The MAFFs units weren't activated until local and state resources were exhausted.

I'm in Boulder and will be house-sitting up further in the mountains for the next week. Hope another one doesn't come close to where I'll be 🙁

Don't want to debate a fire's direction, but what is MAFF?

Keep it on the North side of US 6.

I have the fire break cleared from last fall but only daughter and grandkids are there to panic

No big deal. New Mexico has been on fire for weeks now with the states largest fire in history.

Yeah, both states have been constantly on fire since May. If weather doesn't cooperate, I wouldn't be surprised to see High Park become Colorado's largest as well.

Edit:
From watching the news tonight, sounds like the Airforce Academy might be in potential peril from the Waldo Canyon fire, which jumped fire lines amid the ridiculous wind gusts tonight and entered the city.

We got a little bit of precipitation here in Crested Butte. I was in Fort Collins two weeks ago at an event and we got smoked out by the fire north of the city. I hope the rain comes soon!

I'm sure the serra club dispatched their fire bugs to set some of those fires. Eco-Kooks love fires.
