College = whoa

In my first couple weeks here of my freshmen year. Kind of sensory overload, so many people, so much work, everything so different. I'm really enjoying it, making friends, good times, keeping up with work, etc.

I'm a Piano Performance major at Indiana University (which is actually ranked #2 in the nation for piano studies, better than Juilliard even). I'm damn proud to be here, as I've worked my ass off to get here. Someone told me (I can't verify this) that 89% of pianists auditioning to be in the school are rejected. Being surrounded by all this talent (in the faculty and other students) is just awesome. And stressful, lol. Practicing 6-8 hours a day plus classes plus homework...well it all sounded good on paper. 😉

Anyway, I hadn't posted in ages, so I thought I'd say hey. Hope all's well with y'all. Guess there's no real point to this post.

Cheers!

good to hear you are there and doing it. Keep us updated man...i know from past posts you DID work your ass off to get there. :thumbsup:

<---- graduated with a BA in Music

yes, your music degree will involve a lot of hard work. There is a LOT of practicing you will have to do over the years. I remember most of the piano performance majors basically lived in the practice rooms when juries (fancy term for music performance exams) were close. Have fun, don't forget teh :beer:

I'm missing so much. All this colege talk is getting me depressed. Time to fall asleep & forget about my troubles for twelve hours. 🙁

Are you going to be a prof. piano player? My sister is a music major also.

I have no idea what I plan to do. I'll probably pick up a double major in Music Education, maybe become a TA for awhile...I'm not sure but Grad School is definitely in the plan somewhere...

lol. No one can make you do anything...you have to want to do it. I went to college straight out of high school and dropped out with about 15 credits left to finish. It took me 3 years to finish but i did it. I missed out on a lot by not graduating before 25, but i also gained a lot by going to college in the first place. Close to all of my friends are guys and girls i met in college.

awesome.. i didn't knwo there was any performing arts school better than jilliard.. sorta like mit for engineering.. but anyhow.. good luck to ya.. college is hard, but more importantly, it's a lot of fun..

Hang in there. Music majors require a lot of performance credit. It's a lot of extra work and I personally couldn't do it. Sounds like you have nothing to worry about. Stick with it and keep on top of things. The few years of college will fly by and you'll be out before you know it. 🙂

<-----I'm on year 6 of my Undergrad degree in business but only have 10 hours this semester. I'm already working full time as a sys admin. Just keep at it and you'll reach your dream job. I'm already doing mine.
