Your parents are giving you 20k a year and you just don't study and sleep through classes? It seems like they have a reason to be angry. I had to choose Penn State's Honors program over the University of Pennsylvania because I'm paying my entire tuition. Though I have become more appreciative of this situation. Heh, not to mention 40k/year for undergrad rubs me the wrong way, that's asinine.
Just apply to NYU and Columbia for transfer for next semester. Just say you went on vacation for a year. And after they take you say "By vacation I ment I went to Cornell. Please give me credit for these courses."

you won't believe it but where I live it's 500-700 euro for a year of college. That's without housing and your textbooks.
+housing is 120 euro to 300 euro a month
+textbooks (depends on what you do in college) - 500-600 euro ??
do the counting and you will see that at most the total cost for a year at a university is around 6000-8000 euro (classes + housing + textbooks).
a lot of students also qualify for financial support from the govt. (ecg I received 3000 euro a year).
I hope you guys make a lot of money when you graduate.

He probably still gets some assistance from the university though unless his family is considered rich enough to afford it. A public university would not cost $40k. Some states actually have free tuition for in-state students. Even if the state doesn't have free tuition, it's not nearly as expensive as $40k

You're barely below a 3.0! If you're thinking about going to grad school, then you need to show an upward trend in your gpa. You go to Cornell, that already helps you a lot. A lot of grad schools only look at the last 60 hours, too.
yeah, i get like 8k in grant, which isnt a lot at all. and 4k for a research scholarship which i have done any research in. and thats about it. some comes in subsized loans and work study. and work study at cornell blows. they pay you sh!t for the school jobs, like 5.65 an hour. so you can never really work up to the work study amount.
i cant really transfer to columbia because it will just be wasted money and effort. besides, i already have like 51 credits at cornell including the 20 i got in HS. i am almost half way through. I just have to get past my parents and everything will be all good.

I believbe that at most undergrads u can transfer up to 64 credits. There is always U Mich and NYU.
They can't ask the bursar for your grades. It's part of the privacy thing. Only you can request the grades...even if your parents pay for everything.

i know there is the privacy thing, but what can i do. if i flat out refused, they would know something sketch went on.
apply for next semester and say that you were on vacation for a year. Then after they take you say that you were a transfer in from Cornell. They won't know. The credits will count same as AP credits.
Actually, that isn't a big difference from public schools. I think Florida has some sort of program where with a 90 average, and 1200 SAT, you'd get free tuition (something along those lines anyway). NY state schools just went up to around 13K with room/board. Here in Michigan I think tuition is $3-4k a year.
At the private school I'm going to now, it's costing me about $17k a year (after my grants and scholarships) but with the cooperative education program, most of that is going to be paid off during my work term. I have a friend here that's a freshman that is going to make $15k for his first year of co-op ($15k for 6 months of work, you do math). Wages usually go up about a buck an hour for every year you advance. And I consider the education I'm recieving here as pretty top of the line short of the Ivy league (where engineering really isn't their specialty anyway for the most part).

You're from CA, you guys have Berkeley and UCLA which are good public universities and your other UCs are good to decent. Someone from Alabama doesn't have much of a choice in state public schools! I guess there's a lower cost of living so we somehow end up saving for private schools or out of state schools
I don't know how it work down there in the US, but here in Canada we don' paid full tuition either. The 45K is actually only 1/2 of the cost & the tax payer foot the rest of the bill. Here we don't have the kind of scholarships that the US have, and most of the scholarship/grant is from $500 to $2000.....while the entire school of over 40,000 students may have 2 full ride & a bout six $10k scholarships. The stipulation here in Canada is that you can only accept 1 scholarship at a time, but you can accumulate grants.
Just to let you know I was an engineering student & feel that 8-5 sucks.
nah, leaguing schools dont give merit based scholarships... all need based. how to calculate need is set up by the school, very very shady.
