I ended up with a ~3.6 which is plenty good by me.

4,4,4,3.5,2.5

We don't get any stupid letters for grades...

4.0 - 3.5 - 3.0 - 2.5 - 2.0 - 1.5 - 1.0 - 0.5 - 0.0

my brother, also on his first semester, had a 1.8 avg. he is supremely lazy.

Not done yet, I have finals next week. Was able to get one out of the way, though. Stat teacher will be out of town next week and just gave us an online final. I'm not complaining, though, it was ridiculously easy -- think I aced it, lol.

I should end up with about a 3.5 (three As, two Bs).

California semesters don't end until mid-June :p

I've already aced my only midterm for the quarter. In March I passed my PhD Qualifier Exam (the most important test any PhD Physicist will ever take in his life, except maybe an AIDS test). As far as I'm concerned, I'm done with classes. I just need to do research for 4-5 years and then I'll get that damn PhD hoodie!

Well first off any university that lets you have over a 4.0 or gives out A+ grades either is a pitiful college or is in love with grade inflation.

That said, I graduated wit a 3.02 GPA this year which was nice because I haven't had above a 3.0 GPA since first semester freshmen year, so at least now my GPA starts with a 3.

yep. freakin' Stanford is the worst. in some math classes 60+% of the class get As/A+s.
Geeez. Do they start curving tests when the average is below 85%?
My professors only begin to consider curving if the average goes below 70%, which is of course a C, by definition, "Average."
Through 6 semesters at this university, I've had one test curved. My professors are generally pretty good at analyzing past test performances, and they do a fair job at making tests. At least half of my professors will give a full breakdown of grades after each test, complete with mean, median, standard deviation, and other interesting statistics.

My profs would curve it until they got the amount A's that they thought was appropriate.
