College meal plans, yay or nay?

I'm a Senior in high school and all these college meal plans look appetizing. Most likely, I'll be attending a University of California and I'm wondering how decent the meals are. Are they akin to Pizza Hut, Olive Garden, or Spago?

no dorm food is horrible

get it freshman yr if you live in a dorm b/c all your friends will eat dorm food but once you get your own place, cook for yourself and enjoy

The convenience of a meal plan will override the quality of food, especially if you aren't allowed to have cars as freshmen. Trust me.

yay.

Just watch out for the after dinner sh!ts. Just about everyday after dinner if you walked into any of the dorm bathrooms you would find all of the stalls full and people waiting in line to use them.

nay. it's like being forced to buy their over-priced food, and at an amount that you might not even need. i was forced into that crap for over 3 years here at SUNY Stony Brook. bunch of crooks IMO.

campus foods are not horrible. the reason everyone hates it is when you every the same things everyday or every week, you will just like everyone else.

when i went to collage, our campus food wasnt too bad, but it wasnt great. and we always stayed away from the scrambled eggs, they had a way of making u regret u ate them when u were sitting on the toilet 4-5 times evry hour 🙁

I loved dorm food when I lived on campus. I wanted to get a meal plan even when I was living off campus, but it was wayyyyy too expensive, and inconvenient. Plus, I learned to cook and I'm pretty darn good at it! 🙂

This was at the University of Michigan.

col·lage Audio pronunciation of "collage" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (k-läzh, k-)
n.

1.
1. An artistic composition of materials and objects pasted over a surface, often with unifying lines and color.
2. A work, such as a literary piece, composed of both borrowed and original material.
2. The art of creating such compositions.
3. An assemblage of diverse elements: a collage of conflicting memories.

You lose.

After high school food you will probably very much like college dining hall food. At least that's how it was for me, dunno about other schools.

Probably not the cheapest way to get by (ramen/water!), but convenient. It's a short walk down to the dining hall, good selection, good food, nice facility.

Seeing the word Sodexho worries me. That's the company that provides food at my school. The first couple weeks the food was great, but it quickly went downhill. The pizza is probably the best of what they have, but my roommates always complain about the HORRIBLE GAS it gives me...

Berkeley cafeteria things aren't that great. Decent most of the time but meh. I don't have a meal plan but most of my friends do. You more or less have to if you dorm, so, you'll see. It's not like real restaurant food. More like... frozen food. Of course some nights are better than others.

At Cal, it wasn't great but it was definitely convenient. I lived in the dorms two years and had it both times...As there's no way to cook in the dorms, you're pretty much stuck.

I would recommend getting one of the plans with less meals if possible, because you end up eating out quite a bit and most days, you won't get up in time for breakfast 🙂

Meal plans are cool in the beginning, it's like going out with friends back home but soon you learn to miss your mom's cooking. If you get your parents to pay for it, its a good way to have a set plan without asking parents for money, otherwise i think it's better to just use money.

Unfortunately at my school they force peopel to buy a meal plan, i guess they dont wanna perpetuate the "starving student" idea.
