4 years ago, got into:

University of Rochester
Rochester Institute of Technology
Clarkson University
Binghamton University

Really wanted to go to U of R but went to Binghamton instead. Glad I did. Got a good job and am probably ~$60k less in debt 🙂

In at:

Notre Dame
Boston College

Waiting:

Dartmouth

Update: Wait listed at Cornell. Probably didn't help that I flat out told my interviewer that I was going to ND and wouldn't be attending Cornell.

UCLA

In your admit packet, you will find an invitation to UCLA's College Honors Day, an invitation-only event to introduce you and your family to some of UCLA's best educational advantages, including our renowned College Honors Program. It is also a perfect time to see the campus and to learn about living at UCLA. We look forward to meeting you there. "

Waiting for: UC Davis, UCSD, UC Berkeley

Intended major is computer engineering/computer science for all of them.

how did you know your acceptance early?

I got a call from the head of the engineering alumni association saying that the associate dean was referring my admission to the general admissions people. I got a letter saying pretty much the same thing a few days later. I found out officially today online @ 4:20 PM.

I got into NYU Honors - still waiting on everything else (MIT, Columbia etc.)
Going for math & econ double major.

NYU undergrad sucks for math. take as many graduate equivalents as you can if you are really into math.

My choices are...

1. UofT
2. UW (Waterloo)

Reasons are:
1. If I take grad school in the US, UofT is more known than UW.
2. UW = really competitive.
3. Toronto has a bigger nightlife.. huge crowds of diversity and clubs. 🙂
4. UW = Asian...... males.... I'd rather not deal with that competition (not academically) and get more action in T.O. 😉
5. Closer to home, I'm in Mississauga so after 1 yr rez I can go home!

Those sound good?

Oh reasons for not going to the US... (yet)
1. Too far from home, not ready for THAT much of a change (yes, just an imaginary line across two countries.. but still)
2. Too $$... the CDN dollar isn't exactly worth as much as the US
3. Less diversity? Can't stay this for sure, but I'm used to having a huge (and I mean huge, Asians are the #1 background in the Greater Toronto Area, more than French, English, Italian... you name it) background socially and that might be a change for me.

But I love the US, don't worry... I'm coming there soon enough. 🙂

I don't think $$ should be a factor keeping you from American schools. Admissions at all the top schools are need-blind. As a Canadian, Cornell gave me $30k/yr (american) to go there...

I like the U of T location (not the size; too big for me), and it definitely has a good rep. Although, Waterloo is very well respected even in the States. If you apply for grad school, they will have heard of Waterloo. I don't think you should use that as a factor. I have friends in Texas that were recruited by software and engineering companies in Austin, and they're from Waterloo (they were just hired a year or so ago; in the middle of the bust, too!). Waterloo definitely has the better engineering program, so if that's what you're interested in, don't turn it down for some of the reasons you cited above (that is, reason 1)).

i got accepted to rutgers, virginia tech, penn state satilite campus, rowen, and momouth.

my first choice was VT and that is were i am.

GO HOKIES!!

So I heard today - got rejected from MIT but got into RPI - won't be going to RPI though but slightly bummed about MIT. 🙁

I got accepted to Paul Smith's and Johnson and Wales a few months ago. I'll be going to Paul Smith's in the fall for culinary arts.

Accepted to Georgia Tech and Colorado State. Looks like i'm gonna be a Yellowjacket!
Going to major in Electrical, Computer, or Biomed engineering. Still don't have it nailed down quite yet.
