It's not the Republican base where this will be effective, it's with the undecided Independents who'll see what they consider a very pragmatic man in Powel going to the other side because he believes it's for the good of the country.Originally posted by: HomerJS
I can predict the spin of the talking right wing radio hosts...
See the liberal elite media just focuses on Republicans when they go against their own.
Too much time by the LEM spent on this story.
Powell is a traitor.
Powell was never really a Republican

How does Colin Powell find redemption?
Thanks.
That is the point that "swung my vote" in this election.?I don?t believe [Palin] is ready to be president of the United States,? Powell said flatly. By contrast, Obama?s running mate, Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, ?is ready to be president on day one.?

As a registered Republican, it gives me a level of comfort about Obama that no prior endorsement has.
I will (very reluctantly) pull the lever for Obama this year and hope that, as President, Obama will take his cues from people like Powell rather than Pelosi/Waters/Frank/Shumer/Conyers.

Yep. I was right.
Hope the same sources that told me Powell was going to endorse Obama are wrong on Cuba.
I think you have several orders of magnitude difference in the probability of the two events.
I got it from the same sources. And they have been talking about Powell for over two weeks endorsing Obama. WAY before anyone else.
Of course, even a stopped clock.....

I wish a president had the power to remove a Speaker. Pelosi is just terrible, as I've stated before.
But this is an important endorsement for Obama. Look for Republicans to downplay it as insignificant. But you know that if Powell had endorsed McCain the Repubs. would be touting it as how McCain is the best suited to handle the foreign policy issues facing the country. Typical Republican downplaying.

He's going to be on Meet the Press later today.
CNN reported on TV, that Powell will campaign for him, too.

I doubt this will have a major impact in this election. I think that most people, whetever they admit it or not, have decided on who they are going to vote for.

You wish the executive branch had the power to remove members of the legislature? That's awful.

the right wing talking heads are already going with , "buying the election" and "race before country" talking points.
I think it will be a minor factor, not as much as McCain choosing Palin as his running mate.Originally posted by: Skitzer

I don't think his endorsement weighs heavy on Independent voters.
I am an Independent and I could care less how Powell votes.
