According to Kanye West

Kanye says Coldplay 'better than Beatles'
Kanye West thinks Coldplay will go down in history as the best-ever British band - insisting they are better than The Beatles.

The American rapper is known for his outspoken opinions, most notably when he stormed the stage at last year's MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) to protest about Taylor Swift winning a prize.

He has now given some theories about the state of modern music.

Kanye says America may be known for producing some of the most famous bands in the world, but it is the UK who have the strongest musicians. He heaped praise on Chris Martin's group Coldplay particularly, insisting they don't get the recognition they deserve.

"We have had amazing bands like Nirvana and Guns N' Roses but it's the British who have had the cream with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones setting the standard. I love Coldplay, and I honestly think they are on the same level as The Beatles," he told British newspaper The Sun.

"In 30 years, when Coldplay are old men, people will look back and say, 'These guys were more talented than The Beatles.' I have worked with Chris Martin and the man is a genius - as a performer and a songwriter he is on the same level as John Lennon.

"I am not saying this sort of sh*t lightly, it's really how talented the guy is. And Coldplay can go down as the best ever - even bigger than The Beatles."

The hip-hop artist also issued a plea to work with Coldplay again. He wants to record a whole album with the group, and thinks if they did it would be one of the most successful the world has ever seen.

Kanye has also discussed his public persona, admitting he knows a lot of people don't like him. He is currently promoting his new record My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and has decided to stop giving so many interviews in the hope people will start to realise he is a genuine person.

"I'm not a good celebrity but I'm a great artist... I'm tired of using my celebrity to sell my art," he wrote on Twitter.

They'll just ripoff a Kanye song instead and say "they worked with him". That or deny it altogether like they do with most of their stolen songs. They are douche musicians.

If Coldplay is better than The Beatles, that means Blur and Oasis were bigger than music at their prime. Seriously, COldplay had 1 good album, not wow, but good. Their second album, ok, decent. Everything after that...a pile of meh.

I think he is decent. But he is like any other pop musician.

I think the beetles fit the mold at the time. Most of their early stuff a middle schooler can play FCS, but people LOVED it!

I think bands like Radiohead will probably get more long term recognition. Sometimes it is the unusual that is not on the top of pop that gets most people listening 20 years later and saying "Hmmmm".

/me avoids Things That Make You Go.........not gonna do it.

Well, he is right about that. Example: Led Zeppelin/Pink Floyd.

just lost most respect left i had for Kanye. Any musical artist that cannot recognize the Beatles' obvious musical superiority to f*cking Coldplay should not be allowed to call themselves a musician. And I even like a lot of Coldplay's stuff.

Add Rolling Stones (though I don't care for them)

All in all, the top bands probably came out of the UK.

I am not going to touch this US vs UK thing...I have said it in the past, my allegiance is with UK music and I have been bashed because of it my opinions on UK music's superiority to US music for years. That said, both are now victim to a stalled musical market.

The market isn't stalled. The market for shit is stalled. If records aren't selling, it's because they're 75% filler.

Depends on the era. The 60s were the decade of the Brits. They made more money, but I don't know that they had more talent. They injected some enthusiasm for American music that we forgot, but we had bands that were just as good, if not better. The American bands lacked popular appeal cause they weren't British. Having the "Made in England" label was enough to sell a record, and talent wasn't actually needed.

Why do people care what Kanye West thinks? He's not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Personally, I'd say the Beatles and Stones are tied for that coveted title.

He's a rapper, not a musician.

He's also an ego-maniac.

I am confused as to why anyone would listen to him.

Or Coldplay for that matter...

FTR-Some of the greatest bands IMO came from the UK. The Beatles, U2, Stones, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, The Police...just to name but a few. Coldplay is just meh though...I don't get the hype there quite frankly.
