Cold Air Intakes

Since they're pretty cheap and and actually increase the HP somewhat I'm thinking about putting in a cold air intake in my chrysler.

The question is, can I use the factory air intake tube and just buy a coupler and filter, or do I have to get a new intake tube as well? Thanks a whole bunch!

the power increase will really depend on if you have done any other mod's to your car and as well how restrictive your current intake is. Like if you added a set of headers and a better exhausht system. You will see more benefits from the cold air intake.

umm...it actually helps out at higher RPM's and the response is a hell of a lot better. And I'm sure "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA" doesnt answer my question. Thanks.

Yeah, it does. It will add nothing but noise to your 100hp four banger. Mark my words.

chrysler makes 100hp four bangers? jebus.

chances are it wont be as good as if you were to get a designed pipe going to the throttle body
replacing the filter box alone with a cone filter will give you nicer sound (possible power loss due to heatsoak)
a well designed pipe will give a few HP and sound

Yeah, th 2.4 i4 produces a LOL-worthy 140hp.

if u want sound, spend that money and buy a boozoka (spl) sub from circuit city.

trust me itll make sound. the kind of sound an intake on a 4-cylinder car will make

I got a cold air intake kit from K&N on my Tahoe and it has improved performance, mostly responsiveness of the line.

I'd say it wasn't worth the money really though since it's not much of a gain vs. the $250 it set me back.

I got a 2.5L V-6. And are you thinking of exhaust when you say it will produce "nothing but noise"?

I think you can use the factory tube. Might be better if it's aluminum though for heat reasons. However, I had one a long time ago and it rusted which aint good either.

I already put in a good sound system with 2 12" subs, so no worries there.

Seriously how old are you?

Response is typically said to be marginally better, and it may give you a few (1-3HP) if you are lucky. At the higher end of the tach it shouldn't do anything unless something is seriously wrong already.

Also, make sure to check your states laws. I believe (For some reason) in VA they do no allow cold air intakes.

I have a 260hp 4 banger Chrysler... 😀

I went with a short ram instead of a cold air b/c of possible hydrolock with cold air. Replacing the whole unit with a properly designed intake like an AEM, MAC, oR Volant will give much better results than just jamming a filter on the end of whatever plastic crap came from the factory. I got mine from these guys and picked up a new exhaust from them a week or two later.

The intake didn't improve much, slightly better pickup and smoother idle but the combo of the two was a nice improvement to the 4 banger.
