I don't understand how people can drink those nasty, chemically-tasting diet drinks.

Scientifically, the artificial sweeteners in those products are completely safe unless you drink 8 liters of soda per day. But how big of a risk to your health it is would depend on how much you consume. "Studies" claim that most people don't consume enough per day for it to cause any long-term health problems. (aside from obesity of course)

Like any logical person, I'd rather have the real thing less often than drink shit more often.

I am addicted to coke zero. Drink it almost daily. It is so much better than diet coke. The only other comparable diet drink is diet dr pepper, which is decent

Wish I could cut back, but I have so few vices.

I gave up all fizzy / soft drinks about 15 years ago for health reasons (I didn't drink it much in the first place, but it started to feel like my guts were being melted through like a scene out of Alien when I drank sugary soft drinks). On the rare occasion I try a bit of normal coke these days, mainly out of curiosity, I have to wonder why the hell people drink that stuff.

I also found it quite funny when someone near the start of this thread said that Diet Coke tastes "unnatural"... yeah, like coke tastes natural.

To make Coke taste good you add sugar

To make a diet drink taste good you pull out the lab coat

The scientific community has long established artificial sweeteners to be safe.

The harm of ingested large quantities of sugars is far greater.

sugar is absolutely terrible for you. i do not agree that diet is worse than regular. sugar in high amounts like in regular soda causes a ton of damage to the arteries, heart, kidney, liver etc...

you want to live longer, stop eating sugar.

I'm doomed. I think I'm physically addicted. I can barely taste sweet anymore yet I can't stop eating sugar.

To sweeten Coke, you add HFCS (unless you're buying a special edition version or Mexican Coke).

Stevia is a popular alternative sweetener and it comes from this:

Sugar alcohol is also an awesome sweetener, but it's expensive and a bit unstable, so it's only used in solid foods.

I can't handle regular coke anymore. It tastes like drinking syrup to me now. I prefer Coke Zero or Diet.

I don't like drinking empty calories. If I'm consuming calories in a beverage that's NOT a milkshake, I'd better be restricted from operating heavy machinery.

I so rarely drink soda, like maybe a couple times a year, but when I do I prefer Coke.

Stay thirsty my friends... ;)

It also gives many people the runs, as I found out the hard way when I ate several cookies.

They were tasy though. Maybe even worth the mudbutt.

Though after an earlier poster's comment, perhaps the sugar production industry says that...

LOL- yes, it can do that. There's epic stories on Amazon about the 5lb bag of gummy bears made with SA.

diet coke and coke zero are pretty much the same thing; coke zero has a slightly different flavor but the biggest difference is that diet coke is marketed to women and coke zero is marketed to men.

and if you're diabetic or pre-diabetic, ffs put all that shit down.

Explain please.

scuttlebutt is the artificial sweeteners manipulate your metabolism in horrible ways.
