Beer can go bad (called "skunky"). Soda can't.

I haven't found any Jones Soda that uses cane sugar recently. I've checked out the entire selection at Target. They may have started using 'inverted cane sugar' which is NOT the same thing at all.
Jones claims to use only "pure cane sugar" in all their sodas.

Soda can go bad too. If exposed to too much heat or too many heating/cooling cycles the CO2 will break down and the soda will lose the carbonation and change taste.

Yup. After a year or two, you'll get flat coke.

There is hope yet.
With the high price of corn these days, we just might be going back.

I have a can sitting right next to me. Inverted Cane Sugar. Says that whole "pure cane sugar" thing on the box too.

Still good pop though.

Yup, I go down to the corner Latino grocer here in Arlington, VA, and its a little more than a buck a bottle (glass) and available all year round. Most of what I've had is labeled made in Nicaragua. It's pretty good. I don't love soda like some, but its a nice treat every now and again, esp in the glass bottle.

lol, it is a soft drink, not exactly the healthiest stuff to begin with so I highly doubt that is of any concern :p

I like it. Had it in Mexico. Was better than the stuff with hfcs. My personal opinion.

Where in NYC can I get one? This Passover quip (in the link) makes it sound like it's only available once or twice a year.

It's not about health...it's about money. It's cheaper to make it with HFCS. Would you expect any different from most corporations?

I know it's not about health. The sad thing is that all they care about is $$.

Health has nothing to do with it. The saccharides of HFCS and cane sugar are chemically identical. The difference between the 2 is not much more than the difference between cane sugar and beet sugar.

The legitimate reason for the health outrage over HFCS is that it's so cheap and plentiful that it is literally everywhere and in everything. Especially if you're eating a lot processed or prepared foods, you're going to be eating a lot more sugar than the human body is used to naturally. Combine that with a stressful yet sedentary lifestyle, and you're going to get health problems like obesity and diabetes. So quit blaming conspiracy theories, watch your diet and get in the frackin' gym!

Actually HFCS is closer to Honey than Cane or Beet Sugar.

The difference is that sucrose is a disaccharide with a 50/50 split between fructose and glucose.

The HFCS in coke is 55%glucose, 45%fructose and comes in a monosaccharide form so the two compontnets are not linked together with a weak chemical bond.

In the stomach, sucrose breaks into its base sucrose and glucose ingredients creating monosaccharides, so it becomes even more similar once in your body.

Overall though, they both are chemical similar, though not identical and provide roughly the same amount of calories in dried form (4kcal per g) whilst HFCS in it's syrup form provides only 3kcal per g.

The truth behind the health issues is that any sort of sugar consumed in high amounts will cause health problems and both have the same effects.

It's sold around/before passover ends. The 2liter coke bottle looks the same as the regular 2liter, but the cap is yellow. On the printed label around the bottle, it has tiny kosher logo and rabbi approved or something. As far as I know, it only comes in regular non-diet coke. Check out the Jewish neighborhoods.

Should be around shortly if it isn't already. Passover starts in 4 days.

Found it in a Waldbaums today. Maybe this weekend is when they stock. Apparently I was wrong, there is a diet kosher version, but it has aspartame.

Cane Sugar >>>> HFCS. I am normally an avid coke drinker, but one thing I can tell the difference on is the "stickyness" you feel on your teeth after you drink it. Sodas made with real sugar don't seem to have that.

High Fructose Corn Syrup is used because of a mix of US and European politics sadly. Tariffs and export limits artificially raise the price of sugar beyond what would otherwise be cheap and affordable.

Yes, the sugar soda is better than the HCFS soda by a noticable, yet barely significant amount. (it leaves the tongue a bit better) However $18/24 12oz bottles vs. $9/36 12oz cans (at costco) is hardly a bargain in anyone's book, with the biggest advantage coming from being in a bottle vs. a can (which beer drinkers will agree tastes better).

That said, politics should get out of the way of good food!

...except in the case of dorians. The description of those things scares me.
